Today was so nice. I went to Hobby Lobby today and got some really pretty yarn to knit a scark for Kansas. My very first knit scarf! So I decided to go sit outside under the shade tree awhile and knit. There are fields of hay on both sides and behind us and there was someone baling hay today. It was nice to hear the tractor and smell the hay. And all the goats were all in the back pasture talking to me. And I could see the 3 ewes and the ram lamb in the pasture up front eating. The chickens were running around chasing bugs. And Stella and Bubba were at my feet. It was so nice. And I know how to knit now! It is so fun. So far I am just doing the knit stitch. I already forgot the purl stitch. It will come back to me I am sure. But I am having fun just knitting right now. I want to make socks and hats and sweaters. But that will all come later. I just need to get this down real good first. Then maybe I can learn to spin my own wool soon too.
I am so happy I am knitting. I feel like I can go on to other things now.
I wonder where you all sit and knit. Please share your favorite places to knit or crochet or whatever you like to do.

The little store where I went for lessons has a sit-n-knit on Fridays. But I won't be able to go to it til after Mrs. T leaves for the winter because Friday is my whole day with her. And I can sit and knit at her house.
I have been sitting outside and made 2 dishclothes yesterday and finished the first scarf. I made it for Kansas. I have a whole skien left and want to make a hat for her with it. So need to go to the hat class next. It looks really confusing to me without seeing it done. But can't wait to learn.

I knit mostly in bed. I have a little notebook computer on a tray table. I put on a movie and put in my earphones or listen to a podcast. Sometimes DH and I will watch something together. Occasionally I will knit while sitting on the couch. I also knit at work (sshhh!) when it's slow. Tomorrow I have a knitting date with my friend. There's a yarn shop that has a room you can meet up and sit around and knit/crochet. I haven't been to it before but it sounds fun.

My favorite spot is up on our land by the campfire on a cool October day. I also spends LOTS of time knitting at soccer and softball games and in the car on long trips. The backyard in the glider is also nice on a cool summer evening.

All your places sound really nice. I especially like the river rock. I love to hear water running. I found a nice quiet little swimming hole last week at the end os a dirt road and it's like a whole differnt little cool world in there. the water is freezing and it's just wonderful. I'd like to go take a nice chair and sit it in the water and knit. Sounds so good right now.

One of my favorite places to sit n knit year round is on a huge rock. It has been named Bakers Rock and sits on the Cowlitz river in WA state. We have a river lot just down river from this spot and you will usually find us there camping every weekend year round. So year round i sit on this rock while hubby sits near me fishing. Of course there are days that i have to really bundle up keeping toe and hand warmers near, choosing metal vs wooden needles due to moisture in the air, etc... but i love it!

Well, my most favorite place this summer, is on my front porch. My husband and I plan to create a place under the trees, with mosquito netting over it. I may do that next year. The lighting is the best outside for me. Although, yesterday, I took my knitting with me to the dentist. I typically take crochet projects, but this time took knitting along. I love to sit on the porch and see the beautiful flowers, watch for humming birds, and other birds. I can also see our goats from the porch and hear them talk too. The dogs usually like to join me.

I have spent many an hour on my porch swing knitting. I also always take a project when we go camping. Usually a dish cloth or something I can wash easily. It always comes home smelling of campfire! Those moments of daylight left after cleaning up supper and before it gets to dark to see are treasured. I also love to knit on a long plane ride. You can get a lot done in 4 or more hours in one sitting! I keep a ziplock bag with a small project in my bag/purse. It is for waiting. Waiting at appointments, waiting for prescriptions, waiting in the car to pick up a child/other and when I was working away from home on my lunch break.
I am so pleased that you have learned to knit. It can be as simple or as complicated as you want it to be. Doing a scarf with just the knit stitch is a good way to learn to manage your tension and get enough practice to keep your stitches even. When you are ready for the purl stitch google "Knit purl stitch video" and there are several out there that are helpful. Some of these sites have help sections too. Dropped stitches etc. I still use them when I come across directions I don't understand. Have fun!

I bought one of those little fire pit dealies, and my husband and I sat outside Saturday night by the fire and I crocheted 2 cowls while sitting out there! I love crocheting by the fire, something about the warmth of it and creating something to keep warm. Since we live on base it is kind of fun because we can hear the recruits singing cadence going back to the barracks at night. It's fun to sit out and reminisce. Never thought I would be back here when I was going through boot camp, especially sitting out next to my fire crocheting!

Oh Kristin..we are kindred spirits for sure. I love to knit outside under my apple tree where I can watch all the critters. It is the best spot to see the sheep, ducks, turkeys and chickens and Mona when she is home. The cats hang around and my sweet basset Walter relaxes in the shade there. Perfect.I love to spin outside too. Haven't done it yet this summer but I will make time for sure soon. I have a fleece to wash from my little Navajo Churro ram, Curly, and will want to start spinning it right away. I am working on a scarf (knitting) right now too. I posted about it on my blog today. I am glad to know I am not the only one knitting outside. I will be knitting inside tonight later too, since it is raining hard here.
