When I went back to Germany this summer,,to visit my family & childhood friend... I brought my friend 'Irmgard' a rag rug that I had crocheted for her... I also brought her a fat crochet hook for her and then after hitting a flea market (yes they have flea markets 'Flo Markt' in Germany) we found a set of sheets....bought them, laundered them, stripped them & then I showed her how to crochet a rag rug.... it was such fun to see how delighted she was to make a rug.... and it didn't end there.... she sent me a photo (below) of her latest rug... needless to say, she is 'Hooked'....
I am so happy for her & her new found hobby.

Grace,

I'm actually on one of those wineries! I'm surrounded by crops and vineyards. My husband is the potatoe manager for a very large family farm. It's kind of handy because I'm allowed to glean from the crops. Just the other day I asked the grape manager if I could have some grape leaves when I'm pickling and he said YES. I'm also thinking I might try stuffed grape leaves..... We're actually not in Prosser but that's our address. We're in the Horse Heaven Hills.

It's a priviledge to meet a fellow Kraut. I'll have to see if I can find that pattern. I'd really like to do this.

Excuse the mess & the noise, my children are making happy memories

Hey Kim,
my family is mostly in Heilbronn am Neckar, as well as Flein, leingarten & Brackenheim/Meimsheim....the Neckar river is the main water way through and around Heilbronn.
My mom & I took a trip back to visit family this past April and it was wonderful to spend time with family & my childhood best friend.
I learned hoe to crochet my rag rugs via MJF and I think the instructions are here somewhere.... if anyone knows,,, it will be Alee.....she will know where to find the instructions....
They really are addicting to make! lol!

Very cool! What part of Germany? My family is in the Rheinland area. Traben Trabach and Bacharach. Traben Trabach is where the Mosel flows into the Rhein. Maybe you could give me some hints on how to make a rug? I'd love to do that. Is it similar to normal crocheting? I know how to crochet........

Excuse the mess & the noise, my children are making happy memories

Oh you bet! and not only is Irmgard a rag rug crocheting afficiado now... but I sent my aunt Brigitte a fat crochet hook and Irmgard is teaching Brigitte how to crochet rag rugs.
btw:my aunt Brigitte is my age. She is married to my uncle Herman who is only 4 years older then I.
Just think,,,, in two little German Bergs (very small farm towns) there are 2 very happy ladies crocheting away to make rag rugs for family & friends...
It is very addiciting!

p.s. Diane...watch your mail box on Wed.... :>)
