Had to take my singer touch and sew to the repair shop today,They didn't sound to hopefull. They will call me in a few days to tell me what needs fixed and how much. Hate to give it up, but if I have to, what do you girls think I should buy? Nothing fancy, I do very basic sewing. I have had this machine for 38 years, I'am slightly attached to it, plus its in such a nice cabinet.

Here is my dream house and small farm. Just three acres, but there is a huge garden and an orchard and the house is gorgeous with a fabulous studio on the top floor and a three car garage with electricity that Rob could convert to his "he man woman hater's club."

Oh, my we could be "neighbors" and have weekend visits and sewing sessions!! I hate the hot/humid summers in Virginia. I want to live where it is a bit cooler!!

I hope that works, if it doesn't, then just hit the search button at landandfarm.com and put in alfred with a price of 189000.
This home is drawing me!!! I love it.

Nancy Jo you are so cute, so basically anything Christmas is your favorite? LOL.....Tell you what I'll snap a photo of the fabrics that I have and you can choose!! I'll try to post them on my blogsite tonight. I'll go and snap some photos right now!

Love ya Nancy Jo!!

Nancy Jo,
I always wanted a Singer Touch and Sew when I was younger. Never could afford one back then. I did end up getting a White rotary in about 1979. It lasted for about 20 years. It was a wonderful machine for many years and then just kept getting clunkier and clunkier. I finally put it to pasture an got a cheapie Brother at Wal-Mart. It worked well for about a year, then it was more frustration than it was worth. So I finally got my Kenmore (made by Janome....some of their models are not Janome made) and it has been true love ever since. I LOVE Janome products!! My mother has a wonderful New Home and she just went out and got a FAB embroidery machine.......FABULOUS work on it!!! I will probably always stick to Janome or Husquvarna products. I do like Bernina too. Hancock Fabrics has a lower end Janome that does quite a lot for a small machine. It's not the little Janome, but a full size one for around $100. I haven't sewn on it, but it looks really nice. I have a Bernette Serger that I love, but will replace it in a couple of more years with a Husquvarna flat lock/serger. Good Luck my dear...Wish we could get together and sew!! Say, I found my dream home up in Alfred New York!! Anywhere near you?
Oh, please tell me if you like snow men, or holly or poinsettia, or snowflakes.........do you like red and green, or blues? Get the idea here? Christmas colors and patterns! hehehehehe

Same for me Brenda. My parents purchased a Kenmore for me when I was in high school. I used it so much, I finally wore it out! The repair man said it wasn't worth fixing. So my dear husband said he would purchase a machine for me! I asked him if he knew what they cost? I think I shocked him with sticker price, but in my business I have to have one. I also have a 1952 Singer 221 Featherweight that sews just straight lines and is a champ! I can take it to classes and retreats. But basically all they do is sew straight lines. I also have a Singer 99K which is an old one as well. It too sews only straight. Then I purchased a little Janome Sew Mini for my little grand daughter when she comes to visit. It sew nice for a little machine. Then I do my sewing on a Bernina 153 quilters edition. I've had it almost 4 years now. I really don't plan on purchasing another sewing machine. But we shall see. My Bernina has red on the cover, side panel so I had to have it! That year they came with blue - blueberry, orange - tangerine, white - vanilla, and they called it red - cherry - but of course I call it Strawberry! Then Alex Anderson - from Simply Quilts came out the next year with the same model 153, but had little quilts going across the top! I just love my red one! Anyway, just get what you actually need. My machine has lot's of stitches, and other things, but I really only need it for certain things, and don't utilize all it has. But it was red - and that's what I wanted! I sew every day, so I need good tools! I also have the big (gal) - I call her my Queen Berry. My quilting machine - Gammill Classic Plus with a twelve foot table! I just love it and quilting!

Anyway, have a great Sunday, and we'll wait to see what the verdict is on your Kenmore! Keep us posted.

happy sewing, piecing or whatever makes you happy!

I have used my old Singer (graduation gift from High School, over 30 years ago) all it had was a zig-zig but I used it anyway for all this time. It has been skipping stitches lately.

Last month I finally broke down and bought a new machine - I got a Janome that does embroidery too. I love it, it is so easy to use, and the stitching is more even than that old Singer and it goes REALLY FAST!

thanks for the imput girls, I should know this week if my machine is worth keeping, if not then I will have to shop for a new one, the place where mine is getting repaired teaches you to use the new machines that they sell, who knows maybe I would love a new machine. ITS just hard to give up what I'am used to.

Nancy,
So sorry to hear about your machines terminal illness. :( It's hard to function without a machine at hand. It used to drive me crazy just to know mine was out being fixed. Seemed I always needed to sew something when it was gone. Funny how dependent we become on an inantimate object.
I have had singer, Kenmore and Pfaff. The pfaff is very pricy, but has features I REALLY like. The kenmore is still here and I still use it. It has served me for more than 30 yrs. I think in another thread someone said that Kenmores are now made by Janome? Maybe someone here will remember if that's right. I enjoyed my singers, but they always seemed to have tension issues.
Go online and research some consumer sites and compare. Between that and us farmgirls maybe you can have a great find.
Good luck!! Teddie

Nancy Jo,

I've been through a few machines over the years simply because I couldn't find one that was like my first machine, a used White I got in 1972. I just prefer the feel of a "mechanical" machine as opposed to an "electronic" machine.
I do own a Viking Freesia right now and it is electronic. The features I really do love are the darning feature and multiple needle positions. These are not something you can't find on a mechanical machine.
I guess I would say, try out different machines, be wary of anything made in China, and buy from a dealer you can get to readily for repairs. Good Luck!

Keep the cabinet!
If you get a new machine you can put it in the old cabinet.

have a lovely day and may God bless you and keep you safe
