Posted - Jun 21 2011 : 11:57:16 PM Deb, at WalMart they also sell the fleece precut, but they only have certain patterns of fleece. I'm making them for my church's St. Vincent de Paul Society. God's and Farmgirl's Blessings, Megan

This is a great idea! I would think that fleece would be on sale right now with it being summer & all. They could make blankets and donate to Project Linus. We've volunteered at one of their blanket making sessions Great fun!
My girls (13 & 10) love to make jewelry. I found tools on clearance at Joannes as well as some inexpensive beads. I also try to use a coupon when buying the materials they need. My oldest has gotten quite good at making earrings.

Posted - Jun 14 2011 : 08:30:49 AM Thank you!! I had never heard of journal jars. What a neat idea. I found a place in Bentonville called crafters cottage that is giving lessons this summer at a fairly reasonable price for everything from leather crafts to basketmaking. Of course the son said I dont want to but I think the leather craft will be my solution. He can pick a project he doesnt consider "girly". Thank you for the help.Arttie I too was into embroidery at this age and my daughter likes it. She doesnt do well at completing one project before starting another, but she inherited that from her mother I expect lol. Have a great day girls and thank you |

Posted - Jun 12 2011 : 5:14:54 PM do a google search for journal jars for kids... there is a web site where you can print up the journal jar prompts and put them in a jar, draw one out each day and write about whatever the paper says on it... it is a blast!

Posted - Jun 12 2011 : 2:09:27 PM At the age of 15, I was heavy duty into cross-stitch and embroidery. I loved experimenting with different stitches and fun patterns. I could bring it along when I was babysitting or at the beach. It is a craft I still love to do.
My boys loved doing the plastic canvas at 12 years old.
Both crafts are relatively cheap and will keep them busy for a fair amount of time. And it teaches patience.
Good Luck Arttie |
