Posted - Jun 02 2011 : 6:16:10 PM I know we are a looooong way out, but when will you start your crafting for holiday gift-giving? I have summers off, so I try to get as much done as I can now, though I will admit it is sometimes hard to make myself knit a scarf when it is 100 degrees outside! I was at the quilt shop the other day though and they had a the new holiday fabrics out, and it sure was getting me inspired!

Posted - Jun 08 2011 : 06:55:24 AM Hi Elizabeth...we don't live far from each other. I don't know how to knit, but I do crochet. Think dishcloths are a good start. I went to the Walmart superstore in north Spokane, and found big spools of variegated cotton just great for cloths...at an extremely reasonable price. See what you think.

Posted - Jun 05 2011 : 3:29:52 PM You girls have inspired me. We have had such cold weather in the Northwest, I should have more done. We are expecting even more rain so I'll still have a chance...

Posted - Jun 05 2011 : 3:22:26 PM I had my quilt tops done between Jan-April. With all the cold and snow, it keeps me busy inside. Then I finish them, sitting outside during our short summer! |

Posted - Jun 03 2011 : 05:01:13 AM I started in March. I had a definite idea for an afghan for my mom so I wanted to get started right away. As soon as my garden starts producing I'll be canning away - need to get everything else done before that!

Posted - Jun 02 2011 : 9:28:09 PM Some years I start right after the new year. I already have most of my ornaments made & now I'm working on wash cloths and toiletry bags for my grandchildren. If I don't start early, the holidays sneak up on me. |

Posted - Jun 02 2011 : 9:08:39 PM I've been cannin and workin on dried herbs and flowers for teas for the last 2 months!
I will also be makin soaps this month and startin on the knitted sachets (?spelling) for the herbs to be put in.
I also think I will be makin orange peel votive holders and maybe some homemade candles.
I do most of this in the spring and summer so I'm free for the fall for cannin and preppin the root cellar and transferrin the garden to storage. Then we spend a lot of time collectin cattail leaves, corn husks, and small first year trees for dryin for weavin and baskets durin the winter. Plus we have to hunt pine cones and rose hips for puttin away for decoratin and fire starters and cold season. I love rose hips for colds!
I guess I really never start or stop preppin for the holidays!

Posted - Jun 02 2011 : 6:34:52 PM I start honing in on something during the summer, because if I don't have a plan, the Fall comes way too early and before you know it, I don't have what I should have done.
