Posted - May 27 2011 : 07:06:12 AM Hello crafty farmgirls! I have a bunch of worn out wool socks, what crafty thing can I do with them? I tried darning them, but I must walk hard, I just wear the darn out. I hate to just throw them out, the tops are still soft, there has to be something to do with them!
thanks! Elise

Posted - May 30 2011 : 04:20:39 AM Women from our past would save the tops of socks for making warm blankets. Cutting the tops off, finishing off the bottom edge so it would not unravel and then sewing them together as they collected the tops. Just think how thrifty that was and how warm those blankets must be!

Posted - May 28 2011 : 09:42:44 AM In addition to the cup holders and hand warmers I would make sleeves for candle holders. You can always embellish them too.
Oh, and I have used the socks trying to work them on my swiffer :)

Posted - May 28 2011 : 06:59:08 AM Cool site, Kathy! Those leg warmers looked cute, I have one pair that would be perfect for my DD. I knit some legwarmers for her last year, and they are too small. I should mention that the socks I have are store bought, so no picking up stitches there. A suede bottom would be cool... just got to figure that one out. Thanks for all the great ideas ladies! Keep 'em comming! :)

Posted - May 27 2011 : 11:03:37 AM Can you cut out the sole and replace it with something stronger like the suede type material that are in slipper socks?

Posted - May 27 2011 : 09:42:07 AM I sometimes reknit feet for my socks if I love the tops and had knit them myself...just cut off and pick up stitches and start your feet as usual. But I darn the heck out of them for awhile first. Hmmm other uses....there must be some. I hope someone has some ideas for you.
