I have posted on Facebook, on my own page to friends, and on MaryJanesFarm page as well about the NC SB31 and federal bill S510.
Both pieces of legislation concern me as a individual, a Mother, and a Farmgirl. I capitalize because I feel that being a Mother and a Farmgirl are as much a part of me as my proper name. These bills would take away fundamental freedoms to care for myself and my family in the ways that I see fit.

SB31 would make it a felony to be a alternative practitioner in the state of NC. There would be no more midwives, naturapaths, homeopaths, Shamanic healers, etc. unless licensed by the state medical board as a doctor. They would not be licensed unless attending medical school. The bill allows for the monopolization of health care. Western medicine would be the only acceptable form of treatment to use and the only form available. Any treatment other than the allopathic form of health care would become obsolete.

I feel that this would be a slippery slope to making it impossible to utilize anything other than prescription drugs. These drugs come with a wide range of side effects which I would rather not worry about when treating my family. Many forms of alternative treatments are side effect free and extremely safe. One does not have to use these modalities, just feel that we all have a right to them.

Federal bill S510 would affect the Farmgirl in all of us. It would affect things like farmer's markets, heirloom seed stores, non GMO and organic foods. I am less familiar with this bill but equally as concerned. Local farmers should be able to make their foods available to the community without being tracked by the FDA. It would hinder us Farmgirls from sharing from our gardens with neighbors and folks from the community in need as well. I think it's sad when folks cannot even share without being "traceable."

I believe that both of these go against the very grain of being a Farmgirl. WE are big girls. I implore everyone to ban together and fight for our freedoms as individuals and Farmgirls as a sisterhood.
