Posted - Mar 13 2011 : 8:29:15 PM I get to pick a new project to undertake since I just finished one and I would like to browse through some sites for ideas. Do any of you have some you would recommend or a site you have had good luck ordering from? I know half the fun is touching all the yarns and seeing the colors in person, but I was thinking I might give the internet a try! Marianne |

Posted - Mar 20 2011 : 11:58:59 AM I teach knitting classes in my town, and always recommend Ravelry, which other gals have mentioned here. But, what I like, is the search engine. If you have a specific project you need a pattern for, or for a specific skill level, you can do that. Many of the patterns are free, and if not they tell you where you can purchase it or what book it's for. Now I'm going to go check out all the other cool websites everyone just listed!
Happy knitting!

Posted - Mar 20 2011 : 09:46:58 AM Yes, I have bought from got yarn and she has been in business a long time. Be sure to sign up for her newsletter as she does have some good sales from time to time. I also like to buy from Jimmy Beans as they are so prompt in filling their orders and are such a good source for Lorna's Lace yarn. Hope you are able to settle on one of the yummy yarns available and jump into your next project.
Blessings, Sheri

Posted - Mar 20 2011 : 04:07:10 AM Thank you all so much! I have had such a great week looking through these websites every free moment I could find. I addressed some of you personally, but gosh the combined effort of everyone just made me so happy I asked for ideas.

Posted - Mar 20 2011 : 04:04:33 AM Nigella, I am taking some time looking through all these wonderful websites and I wanted to thank you for the purlbee suggestion. What a beautifully put together site. The projects are so charming. I am a bit intimidated with all the use of double-pointed needles for the smaller projects, but the pine sachets may be too cute for my fear of dpn to hold me back!
Thanks again for all your input. Marianne |

Posted - Mar 20 2011 : 03:40:54 AM Sheri,
Thanks so much for your input. gotyarn.com has gorgeous yarns! And that bookholder would be a god-send to me - maybe my Christmas wishlist is starting early!
I was really impressed with the prices vs. the variety and quality. Have you ordered from them before?
Again, thanks for taking the time to point me in their direction. Marianne

Posted - Mar 18 2011 : 09:55:13 AM Hi Marianne,
Signing up for Ravelry is very easy and very fun and in case you are wondering, yes, it is free. You will need a User Name and a Password. Think Alice in Wonderland! Instead it is a Wonderland community of knitters and crocheters and crafters from around the globe with so many to enjoy and not just patterns either! You'll make new friends too.

Posted - Mar 14 2011 : 09:10:56 AM It depends on what you are looking for and how much you want to spend. I like www.patternworks.com and www.halcyonyarn.com and www.gotyarn.com and www.jimmybeanswool.com
For free knitting patterns I suggest signing up for Interweaves Knitting Daily newsletter at www.knittingdaily.com and of course ravelry. I hope that helps.
