I'm new to crochet, just started learning a month or so ago, and so I thought I'd post some pics of what I've done. Feel free to give me any pointers, I'm all ears!
The following two scarves I did with no pattern in mind - they were just to try the double and triple crochet stitches to see how they'd look in varying yarns. First was in the double crochet and second in the triple.
Lastly, I did a double thickness potholder out of kitchen cotton. Love the look of cotton but wowser.......this stuff has virtual no give to it!
I am loving this craft! I am trying oh so hard to use up the yarn I currently have rather than going out and buying more and more and......well, you get the picture. I don't want to become a yarn hoarder, and I know I could be in a heart beat.
Anyway, I still wonder if I should've did a separate edge trim to my scarves. Or, if they look (are?) fine just the way they are.

Great job! Looks like you are being very careful..so everything looks even. Wish I had been as particular when first learning. I'd probably be better at crocheting now. My next step is to learn to increase and decrease.

What a wonderful job Karen - I love crocheting and have been doing it since I was around 8 years old. I stress out knitting but crocheting I can do with my eye closed - mindless peace. I am so excited for you and I hope you will share your next projects with us - Have fun and keep that hook moving.

They are wonderful! My grandma has tried teaching for 20+ years, and I can't get past a simple chain!! Lol. Great job!

Those look great! Wonderful first projects.
I too am trying to use up my stash rather than buying yarn. But my stash keeps growing because people that know I crochet are giving me yarn, and not just a ball or two, rubbermade tubs full! :)

I'm trying to learn . . . . you're doing WWWAAAAAYYYYYY better than me!!!
I'm actually enjoying learning to tat more than crochet. We'll see what happens here.

Karen, those are so good! I love to crochet, it's so much easier and to me less confusing than knitting. You only have the one hook, no double sided needles or round needles, just the hook! You will love crochet:)

Thanks so much for the compliments! For the scarf made with the Thick and Quick yarn, I'd say it took me most of a weekend. Although I worked that weekend, I spent most free time doing it. When I got started I just couldn't stop! I may take my next project with me to work and do some on a break or lunch.
Marsha your pieces are beautiful! What a hoot to see swiffer covers, though! Novel idea, and they can be reused over and over - no more throwing away a dirty cloth. I wish I knew what I could do with an old vintage pillow case with a crocheted edge to it. There's got to be a use for it in my old farmhouse where I can display it. It'd be fun to do so I can try some of the smaller, finer yarns.
I know what you mean about making stuff for our loved ones. My DD has expressed an interest in those belts that teenagers like so much right now. Little does she know that I've got plans for making her one for Christmas.....

Looks very nice. You'll love crocheting. I know I sure do. Check out my table runner I just did in a check board pattern under this topic.
I added crochet cases to my etsy shop and just love making them. I add vintage buttons when ever I can. My DD wants me to do hats cause she is hat crazy! lol
I made a bowl and she tried to steal it. LOL I had to insist it wasn't a hat. She said oh, just add more around the end so it will cover my ears.
We made a stop to Michael's and bought her yarn in her colors and now I'm going to make her my first hat!
The bowl pattern was extremely time consuming and a very tight weave. Of course I would make my sweetie pie anything she wants!
