The machine I use for mending etc. is acting up. The bobbin thread doesn't seem to be connecting with the top. On the wrong side of the fabric you can see the stitching line and it looks like the top thread just crosses over it. I can pull out the bobbin thread easily. Any suggestions. JoAnn

Here's a tip I learned the hard way....when I removed my thread from the top, I used to just pull it out. What happens is some times there is weak spot on the thread from the manufacture and a small sliver of thread was left in the tension guide. THis is turned caused a problem similar to what I "think" you have now. SO to remove this issue I took it to my local dealership and she showed how to remeove it. She took no wax dental floss and gently cleanout the tension area. Sure enough that little bugger popped right out. It can be cleaned out by using canned air. Don't go over board with can air, as using too much can be harmful if moisture gets in your machine. Use just small spurts and allow to dry before threading.

If things look odd on the bottom of the fabric the problem is with the upper tension, needle or threading, if the top is where it looks odd the problem is with the bobbin. Could even be that the needle is in backward or one of the thread quides has been missed.

You might need a new needle or a different needle for the fabric you are sewing on. Be sure to re-thread the top as sometimes it can loop up causing un-even tension as well. Try winding another bobbin if it is plastic it could be cracked and you can't see it. I would do that before tightening the screw. I'm with Emily on being sure there is no lint caught under the bobbin case. Hope that helps.

sounds like the bobbin tension maybe off, try tightening the small screw on the side. Also, get new bobbins, if you have a kenmore use a kenmore bobbin, singer with singer etc... Another thing only use coats and clark or gutterman thread, they reduce tiny crumbs in your machine. Also clean everything you can of debris with a piece of fleece or flannel.

If this doesn't work, you have to get it serviced, sorry but its a part of sewing machine life.
