I have been sewing from the age of 10. My mom got tired of fixing things i wore out playing so hard. She said, 'toss ot or fix it!!'

I have made the bedding, slip covers, & curtains for my last three children, baby clothes, Halloween costumes, and who knows what else, on my floor, or dining room table. It is doable, not enjoyable. Sew, shoo kids away, stop, gather everything up, cook, eat at the table, clean it up and set up the fabric and machine again, repeat until project is finished...

In the home we just purchased, there was a huge walk-in closet, complete with window, off of the office. Who needs a walk-in office closet? For 8 months it sat with all our files in it, in diaper boxes. Two weeks ago, my DH came home with a filing cabnet, a sewing table, and a new sewing machine! He is remodeling our bedroom closet, and there are extra shelves, he will soon be installing them for me in the sewing room too. I was so excieted I ran out to town, bought tons of fabric, and started sewing the curtains for all the rooms I had been putting off.

The french doors in the living room, and double slider windows in my room are complete. It only took me, and my new sewing room, two days!!!! I am the happiest I've been in a very long time!!

Master bedroom balcony *CHECK* all done

one french door complete and on day two...

We have a complete pair.

Looking forward to tons of new projests, oh the joys of my new sewing room!!

The tears I shed then, watered the flowers I harvest now.

Isn't it GREAT not to have to sew and then clean up to serve dinner on the same table. When my DH and I built our house we made a room in our basement that has a door to the outside and a window to. I just wish I could find the time to get more sewing done. Enjoy your room.

It's got to help. I had projects in card board boxes before, and I wouldn't touch them. The mess was in sight, but the fun stuff inside the boxes was *out of sight, out of mind*. When I got the storage bins, and sorted through stuff, it was like a little treasure hunt. I was inspired again. I was at the end if my last pregnancy, and "nesting". You wouldn't believe how just going through that stuff motivated me. I made my husbands baby book, his mom asked me for, and that second hot September week, I made an entire John Deere bedroom set for the baby still 7 weeks away! Try it. Just going through everything may prove very fun.(((hugs)))

Thanks Annette for the tip on storing my fabrics and craft stuff. I think thats what I will do and get everything out of the card board boxes.

I'd take a baby over a sewing room too! Enjoy the grandson tons. When he is older, he will not need so much *stuff* and maybe then you can sew? When they are little, going somewhere to visit with them reminds me more of moving, then a simple road trip.
I hope someday you get a craft room back, it is wonderful. Before I got the room, I had all my fabrics and projects in those rubermaid drawers. I got the clear ones, so I could see which drawer had what in it. Could you pick up a couple of those, and make a sewing/craft corner in your room? That's where mine was growing up, in my room. My mother still has it there, and uses it there. And Ma still has her sewing set up in my mama's childhood room!

Oh annette, I am so happy for you. I wish so much i had a sewing room. My sewing machine is in my bedroom. I was just looking at it the other night and all the mess sitting aroung it on the floor. Like boxes of fabric, ect. I thought I would be getting my husbands old office to set up in. He moved his office to the back game room. It use to have a pool table in it and excersizing equipment. Anyways we have a new grandson whom I babysit alot. Now we are using the old office for all of the baby stuff. I guess I will not get my sewing and craft room. But I do love my new grandson. He is beautiful. My sewing will have to wait a little longer.

Betty, I didn't. It is just the normal maybe 3' table. I sewed with the current side I was working on in my lap. The extra length, I actually Hung over the other machine. When I was cutting and pinning, I had to use my bedroom floor. I guess I'm not completely dine using the floor in my crafts. Oh well, God made the ground before we made tables, and he padded our *seat*;)

A++ for you Annette. I have been living in my home for 18 years and only one room has curtains or drapes. The windows are all covered by blinds of one sort or another. You did a beautiful job. Wherever did you find a table large enough to sew those drapes on?

Congrats on your new sewing room. There is really nothing like having a space of your own for creating. Sure we can do without, but if the space is there - enjoy decorating and creating in your new digs. Can't wait to see more pictures of your wonderful projects!

How wonderful, I'm so happy for you. I also have done the table dance with 5 children. There were days I honestly thought to duck taping them in another room, just so I could sew!! Looking forward to seeing more of your projects. I love the window treatments.

Thanks gals. How fun to share this excitement with people who "get it"! I even got a happy dance from Judith! I've done a little of my own dancing here, the day the room was finished, and after the French door panels turned out so well...

Oh how great for you! I so miss having a space all to myself, but I guess that is what happens when you downsize. I am still determined to carve a niche for myself somewhere because I am very familiar with the kitchen table dance you described!!

So happy for you. . . now get to it with your new sewing room!! Enjoy.

It is wonderful to have your own space to create yourself in your home. Enjoy all the sunshine coming in those windows and let the creative juices flow.
