Good morning, I am new to this site. I found it while searching for info on apron patterns. After buying a few old apron patterns on eBay I have this new passion for making aprons like my grandmother had. I am looking for the pattern like the "1940 apron" that is shown on the stitchthrutime.com website. Anyone know the brand or where I can buy that pattern? Thanks!

I've seen that pattern too. That is one that I don't own yet. Been thinking of getting it next pattern sale. Very lovely pattern. Wouldn't that be nice for winter as Kim suggested! Oh, Kim, your package should be there today or tomorrow...little girl fabric.

Thanks for checking out my apron musings!

Kathy- I've seen that pattern and I really like the long look. Many of the vintage ones from the 70s (can "vintage" and my childhood be the same era?) are longer like that. I think I'll make one for the winter to wear over my jeans. Right now I would look naked (nekkid) because no one could see my cutoffs!

I found a "new" apron pattern by Butterick yesterday when I was shopping for curtain fabric. You can find it at http://store.sewingtoday.com/cgi-bin/butterick/shop.cgi?s.item.B4042=x&TI=10014&page=6 It's very old fashioned looking and I also think that it wouldn't be at all difficult to size the pattern up if you needed to like I would.

Hello again,
I finally got around to starting to make aprons out of the fabric that I have been stockpiling. :-) I have been buying little calico fabrics that I would assume could have been something my grandmother would use. And I have some old mail order patterns for aprons. So I dove into it last night. Wow. What an eye opener, I started making notes about the assembly and I am up to 10 notes about how to make it much easier and faster. I'm glad I didn't start with my favorite fabric piece! Anyway all I have to do now is the buttonhole in the upper back, and the button. Tonight I will start another one. But not this pattern! Oh, and it is a "large" but it just fits me and I wear an 8. Were people a lot smaller in the 1940's? :-)

you know if you bought the compleated item "1940 apron". You could do what is called reverse engeneering. Meaning you take a final item and draft a pattern from it then you would have your pattern more expensive thatn just buying the pattern. But if you can not find the pattern less expensive then trying to draft one ( time wise that is)

Morning everyone. :-)
I sure do appreciate all the input from all of you.
So with this particular apron, I REALLY want the pattern for the "1940 apron" just like the one on stitch in time's website.
I have searched the internet, the current pattern books, and eBay and find nothing close enough to this design.
I think I will need to just get some pattern tissue and try to make the pattern myself........ trial and error you know. Probably a lot of error. :-) But hey, no cost.
In addition, I am about to copy all my vintage apron patterns onto that non woven pattern fabric, and then I will be selling all my apron patterns on eBay. I don't collect vintage patterns to own the pattern. I just want to make the aprons. :-D I love checking out the $1 and $2 table at WalMart to try to pick prints that my grandmother might have liked.
Let me know if I there is anything I can do for you girls. if you need my email it is leatha@austin.rr.com (Austin, Texas... well close to Austin anyway)

I can't wait to see that one too. I am not big on oriental prints ..more of a traditional sort of gal I guess..but the design sounds wonderful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm really excited! I have sketched out and sized up a Amish H back vintage pattern. It is a canning apron. I think it is going to work out realllly well for we larger farmgirls! I'm going to sneak in lots of late night sewing time, now that my cold is finally clearing up and my hand infection has cleared!! The fabric for this new/old canning apron is now drying. It is a lovely cotton batik with an all over oriental print.

Best bet to get the old pattern look you want is to go to ebay and type in vintage apron pattern or antique apron pattern teh first gets better results

Thanks so much, Sunshine. But their website (patterns page) says they no longer sell the pattern. I am looking for something at least similar to that design. I could try to make a pattern but I am not too good at that. Thanks again. :-)
