Any lace makers out there?

I am teaching myself how to "knit" lace and advice about types of yarn and needles would be greatly appreciated!

I just bought a hairpin lace loom from A.C. Moore. I've knitted and crocheted lace, and although you do use some crochet stitches, this looks different. I haven't tried it yet, but I already have a pattern for a shawl that I want to try. Does anyone else do hairpin place? If so, I would love to see what you have made.

I am using bamboo needles size 10-(Just to see what I am doing) and a very light-weight grey wool-Feather and Fan pattern. I would like to make a lace muffler to accent my winter coats.

Just practicing for now and learning by doing. I love the look of it though!

I have knitted lace; but like to crochet lace better
I use a size 7 crochet hook and size 10 crochet cotton .
I make a shell stitch pattern and put it on my aprons I make a lot of times.
I find that crocheting lace ; or knitting ; if you like
helps to calm me.
also, it is none thinking needlework when waiting at the doctor's office or waiting on some one. hugs sheila

Hi Melody

I love to knit lace. What type of lace are you learning to knit - cotton edgings and doilies, stoles and shawls, socks? There are so many good books out there depending on the type of lace you are interested in. Addi just came out with lace point circulars which I am dieing to try but they are spendy so I haven't had the $$ to take the plunge yet. As far as needles go - the pointer the better. It's more difficult to knit with lace weight yarn or cotton with a blunt end needle. I am a big fan of the "safety line" when knitting lace. Every 10 rows, I put in a thread of a contrasting color through the loops (I pull it out later) so if for any reason I mess up my counting, I can go back to that row and pick the pattern back up. That was the best tip I ever got because it's so difficult to go back when there are so many yarn overs etc. in a pattern.

Blessings, Sheri
