I just finished my first attempts at felting using a thrift store sweater. I have a front loading washing machine, so felting is a bit more difficult for me :0) I finished felting by hand with one of my old washboards. I made 2 pair of slippers, a purse and a cat toy. Not bad for a 3.99 sweater!

Since you are felting the sweater I just throw them into the dryer too. they may shrink a bit more, but you really can't hurt it...heheheehe

Lol! I can't typically wear wool...I find it faaaar too itchy, so I've never accidentally shrunk a sweater. It was amazing how much this sweater shrunk, though. I measured it before and after.

Beverley, I want to make some mittens, too. They are sooo cute. I got a really big mohair/angora hot pink sweater that I can't wait to shrink and cut up! Maybe some mittens??? lol.

I was surprised at how much you can create out of a single man's sweater. Granted, it was a biiiig sweater beforehand. I am making my DH some slippers (size 13) out of the sleeves. I will post pics on my blog sometime. they are taking forever to dry, so it will be a while.

Wow - that's some mileage out of one sweater! I have only felted stuff that I have specifically knitted for that purpose, oh and I guess a couple of sweaters inadvertently when I was first learning to do laundry.
