Posted - May 11 2010 : 10:33:14 PM I had a nice serger machine a few years back that took 4 spools of thread and someone smarter than me to thread it and I got so agravated I ended up selling it dirt cheap on ebay just so my late husband would'nt have to hear me scream at it. Is there one out there that will just sew the seam and finish the edges at the same time that is super easy to use? I don't need one that will do anything else.

Posted - May 13 2010 : 10:45:07 AM Check out Janome's 1110DX. My mom bought herself one for Christmas :) to replace her old menace and I've been borrowing it for several months now and it's truely a dream! I haven't had any problems with it at all. When I buy my own it will be this one! They may have a newer version out already.

Posted - May 13 2010 : 08:47:14 AM Good Morning from Thunderstorm alley, Good day to sew. I am shameful to say that I own 4 Babylocks. My serger (gift from hubby) Quilter's choice (gift to myself when my old White jeans machine died) the Esante which does sewing as well as embrodiery (sp) and the Eclipse which I bought for $200.00 to travel on airplanes. I love them all. Our local dealer sells at a good discount and does ship. www.fieldsfabrics.com or call 1.616.392.4806 and ask for Barb Habers. I've seen discount of $1000.00 to $2,500.00 off when they have a sale. Which is often, specials during the summer months.

Posted - May 12 2010 : 8:46:22 PM I have been doing alot of research and found out the baby lock is the best one. I want either the eclipse or the imagine. I am trying to find the best place to buy one and the less expensive place to buy one. Where did you get yours?

I don't even use it to the fullest use. But I would not do with out one.

Posted - May 12 2010 : 7:11:14 PM Thank you Carmen! I did'nt realize some machines have an overlock on them, my machine is over 50 years old so haven't used one with that on it. I want my seams to look professional. I currently just sew a regular stitch then go back over the raw edges with a zigzag stitch but they still don't look very good. I will continue my search. Thanks for your input! Hugs, Nancy

Posted - May 12 2010 : 07:34:49 AM Hello Nancy, I have felt your pain over the serger machine. Had one for 11 years....never did figure it out. However on my regular home sewing machine (Viking or Babylock) there is a stitch called "overlock". Most sewing machine have this standard stitch...check your manual. I use it to finish raw edges. It actually sews the seam and finishes the raw edge at the same time. On a positive note my darling husband bought me a new babylock serger (thinking he was buying a great gift). A neighbor showed me how to thread it. Now when I have to change thread: I attached color #2 to the cone on the machine by tying a slip knot. Then gently pull it through the system until it reaches the needle. Clip off the knot and thread the needle. Works wonderful. I still don't use it much....but I can if I want too.
Good luck, Carmen Bellagirl Farmgirl sister #1443
