In the Stitching Room book,on page 48, there is a photo of what looks like a rug on the bottom left. Do you know where I can get information on making them? If they are rugs? I'm not sure how to join them together. Also, when cutting circles for the yo-yo's do you use a circle fabric cutter or just trace onto material? Thanks for all your help.

I took the CD idea a small step further. I glued a washed and dried lid from a syrup bottle to the center of the CD for a handle. It works perfect.

Clover also sells yo yo makers in several sizes. I have some and they make very nice uniform yo yos. Before that, I also used cds. Quilt shops, Ben Franklin etc sell the yo yo makers.

using CDs as a template-what a grand idea-why didn't I think of that???
I also trace & cut mine out by hand. I've seen an oval shaped yo yo maker. Hmmm food for thought.........

The only yo-yo project I have ever made, was a yo-yo Christmas tree (ornament). I never sewed them together for anything else. I found this very neat, printable how-to Web site for more projects and joining yo-yo's in more detailed photos.

Just keep in mind the size you end up with will be half of what you started with, so make a practice one to see what size you get before you cut them all out! |

I took a look at page 48-those are yo-yo coverlets. Not heavy enough for a quilt but more for decoration. I usually sew mine by hand but I don't know why you couldn't use a wide zizag & bar tack them. Lay them side to side & stitch with a zigzag i one spot-I think it would definitely make it a sturdier piece!

Old CD's or DVD's (or those junk advertising ones you get in the mail) work great as circle templates for yo-yo's too!

... I use a template for my circles... like mayonaise jar lid, tuna fish can, soup can... you get the idea. :o)

If you have a circle fabric cutter you can use it. I just traced mine cut them out by hand. I will have to go home & see what is on page 48.
