Ladies, This is embarrassing, but Help!!! I am a VERY beginner knitter. I need a 2 needle, basic (ribbing, garter) type baby bootie pattern. I have checked online and even some of those I am not sure I understand. Slowly I am learning! Any ideas or patterns you could share? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated! Blessings, Linda

Hi, I am also a very beginner knitter and crocheter, and I found a lot of patterns on Etsy. One seller in particular, enter the name Hectanooga, has lots of easy beginner patterns, and I thought her patterns were good. Best of luck.

Hi Linda -

This is my favorite bootie pattern of all time - an oldie but goodie! Hope it works for you.

“Stay-On” Knit Booties:

This bootie pattern originally came from Workbasket magazine. They are made with old fashioned fine gauge baby yarn (about 1 ounce). The pattern calls for size 3 or 4 knitting needles, but I have to use a size 2 to make them small enough (I knit very loose). There was no gauge given with the original pattern, so it may take a couple of tries to get a size you are happy with.

Also, I don’t make the crocheted chain and pompoms at the end. Instead, I use 1/8” ribbon in a coordinating color and lace it through the eyelet row.

Starting at the sole seam, cast on 40 stitches.

Row 1: K1, inc 1, k 16, inc 1, k 2, inc 1, k 16, inc 1, k1 (44 stitches)

Rows 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10: K

Row 3: K1, inc 1, k 17, inc 1, k 4, inc 1, k 17, inc 1, k 1 (48 stitches)

Row 5: K1, inc 1, k 18, inc 1, k 6, inc 1, k 18, inc 1, k 1 (52 stitches)

Row 7: K 21, inc 1, k 8, inc 1, k 21 (54 stitches)

Row 9: K 21, inc 1, k 10, inc 1, k 21 (56 stitches)

Row 11: K 21, inc 1, k 12, inc 1, k 21 (58 stitches)

K next 6 rows.

Instep: K 34, k 2 tog, turn, k 11, k 2 tog, turn (continue in this manner until 34 stitches remain on the needs, then k to end of row).

K one row.

Eyelet row: *K2 tog, yo, repeat from * ending with k 2.

P one row.

K 2 tog, inc in next and then every 5th stitch across row, k 1 (41 stitches).

Ribbing: *K3, p1, repeat from * ending with k 1. Continue in this manner for 2-1/2”.

Bind off and sew seam.

Chain: Chain 75 to 80. Slip stitch, fasten off. Weave chain through eyelet row. Make and attach small pompoms to ends of chain.

Fold top of bootie over like an anklet.
