Hi everybody!

I purchased an antique spinning wheel last night. It is a Saxony style wheel. I have what is probably a silly question, but I can't figure out how to remove the bobbin!!! Do any of you have any idea? I have a castle wheel, and the flyer and bobbin just rest in a leather lined "V". On this one the shaft seems to go right through the upright supports (I can't remember what you call them). I don't see any way to remove it.

Thanks all!

Luanne,
I can't compare to your castle style or your new antique saxony.
I the have ugly step child to spinning.I have a Babe Fiber Starter, so much for looks!!!!
I'm just learning and didn't have the cash for anything else. and it's used besides.
I uploaded this picture from my c drive to free account I set up at photobucket.com

and then just copy and paste the location between the brackets!
hope this helps.

Hi Grace -

I haven't had any luck posting pictures but will keep trying. I have tried spinning on it a little bit, but I'm still very new at spinning so it looks pretty bad.

Are there any spinning farmgirls that live anywhere near Northeastern PA?

Thanks!
Luanne

Hi Karen -

Yes, a friend came over and figured out that I just had to turn one of the upright spindles, but it was stuck a little - from age and not being used, I guess. I'm having a wonderful time with it!

Thanks,
Luanne

Have you figured out your wheel yet.
I'm new to spinning so no help, but I'd love to see a picture of your wheel.

Hi Grace -

I'll give it a try - I haven't had much luck loading pictures. Of course, I'm not real computer savvy!

Would you have a picture that I could see - that sure would help us in helping you. Depending on the age will depend on how it is put together. Glad to help if I could see it.
