I have continued to try to find a dress pattern that is like the prairie dresses but with a modern twist. I don't want to look as tho I am going to a reinactment but want a simple cotton dress with ruffles and made using cotton, nothing real fitted because I am built like the micheln man. lol...

Thanks for the other link too! I did go on the modest handmaidens site and bought 3 patterns. I love the look of those plus I can wear them to church and my granddaughter won't be able to ( flash ) me in them. lol.... I was wondering on them how much fabric they take to make them in the plus sizes??? I went today after I got in my grandaughters sewing machine to have it serviced ( singer 401A ) and found out they had bought out the fabric store we had in town here that I use to love to go to to get repro feedsack fabric. They were having a sale on it....I got 75 yards.....now THAT is alot of prairie dresses!

I made the prairie girl dress, and I LOVE it. Got the fabric form the $1 a yd fabric store, so I made it for $3. I wear a purchased, vintage slip underneath, and a camisole I aalready have. I made a size 6 becuase I thought 4 might be too small. I'm a 34 B " on a good day", small size person, but I thought 4 might be for a young teen.
Next time, I'll make a 4. Everyone loves the size 6, but it's a little big in the chest so you see a bit much camisole. WHich does not offend anyone- but- ya know..

Hey Nancy - Favorite Things pattern company makes one called a Prairie Girl dress - very easy to make, not fitted. I have made a couple of them, they have a website too, not remembering the address but if you google it you can check it out:)

santa4u,
I found a cute pantaloon or bloomer pattern on a site called Modest Handmaidens. It looked like they had lots of dress patterns but I'm not sure if any would be what you are looking for. I liked one of their drawstring skirt patterns that has a ruffle on the bottom but didn't order one yet. I really enjoyed sewing the bloomer pattern I got from them and they seem like a good company. Hope you find a fun dress pattern soon. Don't you just love wearing dresses? I especially like skirts and dresses in the summer.
