Posted - Mar 18 2010 : 9:43:04 PM Anybody ever made these before? I am making some tonight! They are so easy!! Well at least the making the shell so far has been easy. I bought a kit to make chocolate eggs with since Hobby Lobby wasn't carrying the Wilton molds and they are working great! http://candy.about.com/od/candybasics/ss/sugar_eggs.htm

Posted - Mar 20 2010 : 8:30:37 PM When my children were in elementry school twenty some odd years ago. I had mad three different sugar Easter eggs for my childrens' teacher's. Before I put the two halves together I put in cute little trinkets some I made and some I bought. They were so adorable and the ladies just loved them. Hugs, Laurie

Posted - Mar 19 2010 : 09:05:34 AM I never knew they were considered easy to make. I always thought they looked so fragile and beautiful! Maybe I will try one then. Just what I need ..another "just have to try it."

Posted - Mar 19 2010 : 08:55:16 AM Sheri- Without the egg or merinque powder they would be super fragile and eventually break down. My mom has ones that she made in the 70's/80's. I made some yesterday and need to work on my piping technique! I have one egg put together and another that I might leave as halves but I am not sure.
After this type of sugar hardens you need a fine grit sand paper or very careful scraping with a sharp knife to get rid of any parts that aren't supposed to be there and to smooth it a bit more.

Posted - Mar 19 2010 : 07:42:05 AM You can make them without the egg too. I have made sugar cake toppers with sugar that has been dampened with just water and packed into a mold. I don't know if that makes them more fragile or not but once dry they hold up pretty well and are still white. I hope you will post pictures of how they turn out.
Blessings, Sheri
