I received an e-mail that march is National Crochet Month! Who knew? I started a new project. Crocheting wide brimmed sun hats with all natural paper rafia! It is quite different to work with but they turn out so awesome. They are perfect for gardening. I have four of them for sale in my local co-op. I will post pictures soon, since I just figured out how to do that. Anyone interested in the pattern or where you can find the raffia, shoot me an e-mail.

Diane, those hats are too cute! I personally like to crochet scarves, but I would like to try other things as well.

Actually the hats pictured are kids sun hats made out of recycled cotton. I don't have a picture of the rafia hats yet. They are in a local shop and I have to go take a picture of them.

I love those hats! I have a crocheted paper hat that I bought a couple of years ago and it was my favorite summer hat. I've worn it so much that it no longer holds the brim up and I've been wondering what I was going to do. This pattern sure looks similar. Think I'll just have to order it! Thanks for the links.

Hooray for National Crochet Month! Perhaps I will get all my little projects done. :)

I don't have a picture of the raffia sun hats yet but I do have one of some children's sun hats made from cotton. The pattern is free at the Lion Brand link I previously posted. I added the vine and flowers on my own.

Ok, found out that the raffia sunhat pattern is copy writed so here is a link to the company Crochet Asylum and a link to find raffia ribbon all natural cheaper than that site has. Also a link to the e-pattern for the easier sunhat out of cotton for beginner crocheters.

I am working on getting the pattern and supplies out to you all. Just a note for beginner crocheters, this is quite difficult to handle...not for beginners. I do have a link to a free sunhat pattern made out of cotton that is easy for beginners. I will post the links.

I'd like to get the pattern. I don't know how to crochet yet, but one thing that's keeping me from taking it up is that I don't really need anything I could crochet. A sun hat would be a great project.

Those hats sound like a neat idea, Diane! Looking forward to seeing photos of them, as it sounds like something I would enjoy! I won't ask for the pattern, since I don't crochet...working on learning so I can do a very basic dishcloth, though! :-)

I'd love the pattern please :) I love to crochet, and because I will visit my brother this summer in Thailand, that might be a nice thing to make and take with me.
