Hey Farmgirls,
Just thought I'd share a pic of some of the merit badges I've completed. Since the badge for each category is the same design for all three levels, I decided I didn't want to make a separate badge for each level of the same design. I also wrote on the lower left edge that name of that category using fine tipped Millenium pen.

Instead, I decided to sew a button on the lower right edge for each level I have earned. Some of the ones pictured have only one button . . . I haven't submitted applications for more than beginner level.

And, for "Buttoned Up" I decided to sew actual buttons on instead of embroidering button designs. And, with "Quilting" is used some pieces of some favorite fabrics and applied with Wonder-Under onto the badge instead of embroidering the quilt designs. The buttons on the Quilting Badge are in a different spot and a bit harder to see.

Anyway, just wanted to share . . . I have more that I'm working on and will be submitting more applications as well.

THANKS FOR LOOKING!!!
CJ

They are so cute. I really need to work on mine. I think you have inspired me!!!!

The road to success is not straight. There is a curb called Failure, a loop called Confusion; speed bumps called Friends; red lights called Enemies;caution lights called Family. You will have flats called jobs. But, if you have a spare called Determination; an engine called Perseverance; insurance called Faith, and a driver called Jesus, you will make it to a place called Success!!

CJ, thank you! I was reorganizing my craft room and putting all my MJ mags together. Thumbing through last summers, there was your picture with all your badges. Very impressive my dear!! By the way, you have been very lovely in other posts, various subjects. It is noticable what is written and the thoughts behind it. Kudos from me to you!

Tamara,
I use a light box and transfer the design onto my fabric with a blue transfer pen. Then I embroider it and then wash the blue out . . which comes right out with just a quick rinse. The fabric I use is a natural ecru colored fabric that is heavy enough to have body, but not stiff or too thick so that I can't see the design through it with the light box to trace off.
Hope that helps!

How is everyone transfering the designs to fabric?? I tried printing them right on my printer, which looked and worked wonderful... but came off in the wash. I love the button idea too!!

I have heard that some ladies put them on the back of a denim jacket to advertise the sisterhood. Love your 3 level idea.

Today is the day the Lord has made. I will rejoice and be glad in it.

The hardest part of me is the embroidery work. I don't have the steadiest hand and if I use a blue like marker to transfer to fabric I feel it isn't as good. The transfer fabric was stiff. I loved the one we got of Henrietta and wished I knew how to easily transfer to fabric.

CJ just saw your badges. I must admit I have hesitated getting started on them. Think I need to know how to submit that I have completed an area so that I can get a badge. But looking at what you have done, I really am impressed and want to get started on them. Thank you for showing what you have done. It really is inspiring.

Love your badges! I found a denim vest that I had forgotten I had in my closet that I'm going to sew the badges onto. I think I'm going to go with a frayed edge on them. I like the vest because it works for hot and cold weather. I have my henrietta badge as a pin so I can move it from my vest to my apron if desired. I have four badges embroideried and I have 6 more to embroidery. I embroideried my two son's first badges. I made theirs as a pin as well because any clothing that I put it on would be quickly outgrown.

cute CJ! you've inspired me to post pics of my badges. The buttons for levels idea is a good one! I wish I had thought of that! I'm doing a ring (the dashed line) for each level, so some badges have one dashed ring and some have two...no expert levels for me yet! But I've only been a member for a year, so give me some time! ;) I really like your quilt badge - oh and I did the button one like that too. I thought I was SO clever - great minds think alike I guess! Thanks for sharing and if you want to see mine, just check out my blog.

I think you can get them at Walmart or some fabric stores-I use mine to mark the name & dates a quilt is made on the back. They may carry them in scrapbooking stores also since they are archival & acid free. I love them-they come in lts of colors & work great!

Thanks for the email letting me know where to see your badges! I *~LOVE~* the use of the buttons instead of lines to denote the level of experience. I think we should adopt that for everyone!

Great ideas here.

Thx again,
