Ok, here's the situation. I HATE throwing away those metal tins that stuff comes in..mints..christmas cookies, etc. Has anybody out there been successful in upsourcing these little gems? I was thinking of perhaps gluing some fabric on some and then embelishing them, I tried a sample but the sparkles fell off.... :-( any advice for me? Thanks!

I saw a very cute long tin...papered. Then there was an extra strong magnet on the back and it was used to hold pencils on the fridge next to the memo pad! I thought it was a great idea. I am always looking for a pen/pencil to write down things I need from the market. |

You could also decoupage pics or paper or fabric on them.

what kind of glue is used on them for the outside decoration? somebody said a glue gun...any other suggestions?

They make great plant pots too. You can either put an already potted plant in one, OR you can put just the plant and dirt in--just make sure you poke drain holes in the bottom if you do. I have a set of old tin cannisters that I am doing that with--they're not good enough to use as cannisters, the paint is worn or chipped, there's some rust, but so awesome as plant pots.

I have some tins that tea came in. I have saved them to store things in. I plan to measure the size I need to print out a wrapper on the computer, using pictures and text art. I will wrap it around the square tins and secure with glue. This way, I can reuse when my needs change. My thoughts are that I will use brown paper sack paper. I had also thought about using my stamps and inks on the brown paper sack paper to make them look rustic.

I have several tins that tea/coffee came in--the tins are a perfect size, I just need to spruce them up....I'm not very good with spray paint because it makes such a mess...but I'll give a couple another try and see what happens....

One easy thing to do is just spray paint them and then you can make a cutout or stencil, or use a lace doily even, then just spritz over with a contrasting color. I did this for gifts one year where I monogrammed them all with the giftee's initials. It was cute and quick.

What I like to do with them is to paint something on them (landscape, flowers, funnies, etc...) and then fill them with goodies such as cookies or something they are especially interested in. I did this a few years ago for Christmas. Everyone loved them.

You can wrap them in a nice fabric, paint them, use wallpaper borders, nice scrapbook paper. Usa them for anything: Put glasses with flowers inside, pens near your desk, kitchen utensils. The possibilities are endless :)

even if you don't cover them
they can be put to use .
put sewing things like needles , pens etc
into them and put them in a craft

I've seen them decorated with Polymer clay, but have not done any myself...though I do have 3 waiting for that treatment as soon as I get some time to play!
