I tried Ghinger and vetoed them. I've also used various other brands with not much luck. UNTIL...... I found KAI. My boyfriend bought me a pair for my birthday one year and truthfully at the time I thought he was NUTS because at that time it was Ghingers for me too.....but they are so heavy and need sharpening so often.....and if you're like me, a southpaw, for some reason when you turn the regular Ghinger's upside down to use, they only jam. KAI can be found under various other headings....I bought a pair just the other day at JoAnnes when they had Fons & Porter supplies 30% off -- I wouldn't have bought them except KAI is stamped on the blades. They are light weight, stay sharp, and come in many different sizes to fit your preference. I made a scissor case w/foam rubber in an old make up case -- you know the kind that looks like a metal suitcase -- I took out the innards and replaced it with thick foam rubber that I made cut outs to house my precious scissors. Don't touch my KAI scissors.....them there's fightn' words...... they are simply the BEST.....hands down!

Is it too late to say Ghingers?? As for wood chip cutting husbands ( LOL!) , I was on the phone with my son, coaching him through trying to find something for me. He got kinda quiet. Next he said " I just found some very expensive looking scissors. I think I'll just set them asisde for you!!" Yep, he's trained- somewhat!

I forgot to say I threw out the scissors by mistake !! Lol
I have a tendency to put things in bags and forget and out they go!
I am trying to put my scissors in a safe place now
At lest the ones I cut fabric with

AuntPammy - I had to laugh, I guess I'm obsessed too, whenever my hubby goes into my studio when I'm not in there, I always ask nervously, "what are you looking for??" and remind him not to use my fabric scissors... he now often jokes when he want's to get me riled up and says things like "I think I'll go get a pair of scissors from the studio and cut up some wood chips"... I too only use mine to cut fabric, unless you count the time I cut off the side of my finger... and mine are as sharp as the day I got them too!

No question...Gingher"s eight inch sewing scissors are my favorite for regular sewing. I have a pair of Fiskars titanium (they are huge) that I use to cut multiple layers of fabric for quilting.Both of these scissors are old but stay just as sharp as the day I bought them-but I do have to admit I am a bit obsessed with them.lol I never let anyone use them and I only cut material with them. That really does help.

Sheila - not to change the subject, but . . . I got tired of waiting for other people to sharpen my knives for me. I went to a local hardware store (not a Home Depot or something like that) and talked to a man who worked there about it. He showed me how to successfully use a sharpening stone myself. I can do my own.
It's hard to sharpen scissors unless you really know how. Sometimes our local Hancock and the quilt shops have people come in and either sharpen scissors on site or pick them up and sharpen them and bring them back. you might want to check that out.

I like the lightweight Gingher's. I got them years ago from Hancock's of Paducah at a very reasonable price.

I had a 2 good pairs of Ginger scissors and accidently threw them out
I like Fiskers too
I have those Mundail
brought a scissor sharpner and hubby tried to sharpen mine
the scissors or either to old ;are something is wrong cause they still won't cut
He brought me a electic knife sharpner and we can't find it since we moved
Brand new one last year
My knives are so dull you can't cut anything
Ask hubby to shapen them and he says
You are going to get cut with them
Well I tell him that the dang things are so dull you can't cut butter with them and that is a fact
Brother and I were remembering our Grandaddy
they lived in the country on a little farm and had indoor lights ;but not indoor plumbing wood cook stove
I told my brother that I can still see Grand daddy sitting at the kitchen window sharpening knives with the rock thing

I like my Fiskars spring loaded scissors - I have several pair - a razor edge pair (my very favorite) plus the regular type and a pair of the spring loaded small embroidery scissors. My only complaint is that I tend to wear the spring out. The Ginghers are pretty pricey but perhaps I will have to watch for a sale and invest in a pair. The spring loaded type really saves my hands when cutting heavy fabric like denim.

I started using KAI scissors a year ago. I really like these scissors. They cut all the way to the end of the scissor. I even made them their own little quilted case to keep them in. When I ask my grown children to get me my "good scissors" they go to the sewing box, gently pull out the quilted case and lay them in my hands like it is a jeweled crown! they are available at www.designtofit.com

My husband is always wandering/hiking/walking in the woods and stumbles upon lots of things. One day he found a place where they had dumped the contents of house. One of the things he found were a pair of large Gingher scissors! JoAnn |

Have been sewing for over 40 years and absolutely Ginghers are the best. They are pricey but if you keep your receipt they are guaranteed. They last forever if your husband doesn't cut wire with them.

I sew ALOT and Ginghers are my favorite. Not sure what type of fabric stores you have near you, but Joann Fabrics sells them and I buy when I have a 40 or 50 percent off coupon. A good investment. Dianne

Ginghers are the absolute best!!!! I have them in all sizes and even a pair that have a spring action to reduce hand fatigue when doing a lot of cutting.

Without doubt, Ginghers are the best. They are pricey, but will last forever if you take care of them. And, if you look around or are interested, they come in collectible designs that are made for a limited amount of time.
