My 90 year old grandma is in bad health and moving in with my mom. All of her things are being distributed or stored; and I asked for all of her sewing things. She was an avid crafter and seamstress for her entire life!
I got her cabinet sewing machine, and ten or so plastic boxes full of fabrics, etc. but the thing I am really excited about is that I got her
LOOM! I have never used a loom before; I don't have any idea how to use it.
Any ideas? Books? How-to's?

What a treasure! I have a friend who has a loom, it sits by a large window. It is one of her favorite things. You are very lucky.
Forget buns of steel, I'd rather have buns of cinnamon!

Wow! I'm jealous! I really want a loom! I just began weaving lessons about a month ago and am saving up for a big loom though I don't know where I'll go with it! My teacher just told me the best book for learning to weave is called "Learning to Weave" by Debbie Redding.

Wonderful!
My son is an art major at Eastern Illinois University and weaving is one of his favorite things to do. He says he has peace when he sits weaving and is able to reflect on many things. Keep that in mind as you weave your way to happiness!

Hosanna, how LUCKY you are!
I've lived in a couple places where Adult Ed / Community Education offers weaving classes. There are also sometimes weaving guilds or fiber arts guilds with weavers in them.
Let us know what you find out!!

That is so neat. When my grandma went into a nursing home (her choice) she gave all her things away right then. We got to choose what would mean the most to each of us. I got a few of her pink depression bowls. And last Christmas my mom gave me her long wooden bread bowl. I am using it right now to rise some bread in. I was so happy to get that. I think that's the best way to do things. When they are still involved in the process.
I also was handed down my great grandmother's spinning wheel. She used it to make all their clothes for years. I still don't know how to use it. One day I will. But just knowing I have it is good enough for me right now.
I hope you learn how to use the loom. There are so many things you can make. And you will think of you grandmother when you use it, too.

Hosanna, How cool!! I am so excited for you! I know there are tons of books on weaving and I am sure some of the other ladies will have good suggestions! You may also want to try looking up videos on youtube.
