Posted - Oct 25 2009 : 6:07:00 PM Is felt expensive??? Is there a better kind to buy??? I have never explored the felt section of the craft store. I want to make Charlie some felt vegetables and I might even attempt a donut.

Posted - Oct 26 2009 : 8:05:20 PM Heather, You could make quite a few things with a pond of wool! There are tons of things you can make with needle felting or wet felting!! The kids and I have made felt balls and they had a lot of fun, in fact last year I took my spinning wheel to my son's 1st grade class and all of the kids also got to make felt balls and they had a blast doing it!

Posted - Oct 26 2009 : 3:33:51 PM Heather, Your question is not ignorant at all! What is bad is pretending to know things that you don't! I do have to say that personally I don't care for the "felt" at Walmart. It can wear through and it's kind of difficult to cut small shapes out! If you are feeling really adventurous, you could get some white wool and use Kool-aid to dye a ton of different colors and then felt sheets yourself to make your veggies! That may be more than you want to do. but I spin and do felt so I would have a blast!

Posted - Oct 26 2009 : 2:14:57 PM Some more thoughts.... "Waldorf" style felt veggies are usually made of wool felt due to the natural materials philosophy. And the cheapest way to get wool felt is to make it yourself in the washing machine out of old wool sweaters! Loads of instuctions available on the internet. You can make the veggie first, then felt, or make it afterward (although the felt you will get from sweaters will be very very thick and somewhat hard to work with).

Take care, Melissa.

Posted - Oct 25 2009 : 9:58:23 PM Another nice thing about Wal-Mart is that some of their felt is "green"--made from recycled plastic bottles. It's only 29 cents here and it works just as well as the slightly more expensive felt from Michael's.

Posted - Oct 25 2009 : 7:27:08 PM If you can hold out and look around, sometime Michaels will have it on sale for like .27 a sheet. But, like I said you have to wait for a sale. Walmart always has it nice and cheap! :D hugs

Posted - Oct 25 2009 : 6:24:23 PM The aprox 8x12 peices are not expensive at all, I have gotten them at Wal-mart for .50 each before, and they come in every color. They should be heavy enough to make veggys out of.
