Gurls,
I am searching for Penny Rug or other wool felt patterns. Anyone have some they are willing to share? Also, looking for advice on felting.

Joy I have the perfect one - it is from a book called "Autumn Threads" from Need L Love. It is call "Tom Turkey Wallhanging but you can make it into a rug, table top or even large pillow. The pattern is great because it has the individual pieces for the tail feathers, wings, body, waddles, head and you get the picture.. This will allow you to have many colors, textures and such or you can combine it for a much more simple look. It is the perfect "Kid Drawing Turkey" but with much more to it. I tried to take a picture of the finished piece but since it is a very glossy paper my old camera just is not getting it. If you would like just email off site and I will send you a copy.
As for the patterns I sell, well I have dozens for penny and wool works along with books. The book that the turkey comes out of runs $20.99 and has a ton of different types of fall projects such as
A Scarecrow Welome Embrodiery, Out on a Stem Pillow, Prowling for Treats Quilt, Pumpkin Moon Cross Stitch, Pumpkin Head Scarecrow Dolls, Black Cat and German "Jack" pins, Stitch Illustrations, Autumn Gathering Hooked Rug, Voodo Jack and Cat Pincushions, Primitive Pumpkin Quilt, Autumn Shoulder Bag and Collar, Not so Scary Cat Pillow, Penny Coasters, Squash Pumpkin Pillo, and a Squirrel Sweatshirt. Quite a variety.
I carry this line of books which also has one for each season. I also have individual patterns for things like bunnies, hearts, flowers, and just about all the typical topics. Maybe if we talk of site we can find you just what else might fit the bill. Presently I have not placed patterns on line so we would just have to go thru the shelves here at the farm to find what you are looking for. Hope that helps.

I am not sure there is even such a pattern...but I was thinking a turkey...you know. one kinda like kids use to color and bring home? I thought maybe of doing one and then doing the "pennies" on each rounded colored feather...sound silly? got the picture in my mind...but I am very new to wool felting. I done a workshop last weekend and I LOVED working with it. Any patterns you are willing to share i would be grateful. I would also like so see some you have in your shop...willing to pay that is for sure.

You can make your own patterns with things around the house. I have used drinking glasses, glass jars, pot lids - my canning pot is wonderful as the base to then sew your pennies onto. Also taking to platters and lying them side by side on you base fabric will give you a wonder oval - just draw a straight line from the outer curved edges and there is your oval. You can move the platters as far apart as you wish for the size of base you want. I have tons of patterns that I sell in my shop - is there something you where looking for? If I have it in my personal collection I would gladly make you a copy and send it to you. I also love to use coloring books for felt - their designs are simple and you can do great piecework with them.
Let me know what you had in mind and I am sure I have it in my own stash - glad to make you a copy.

thanks for bringing this subject up Joy because I was wanting to do one soon.
I have done the wool on hot water in my washer, I have an old washer. I have had to do it a couple times to get it felted like I wanted to.

O.K.- Dumb question time, What is a Penny Rug? Is it a brand name, do you use pennies for circle sizes, or what? Thanks for any help you can give me.

I will look to see what I have. When I did most of my penny stitiching I used vintage fabrics that I overdyed and felted on the stove. Most old wools will felt right up the moment they hit hot water. I also did some in the washer, but I have a front loader now so mot sure how that would work. |
