Posted - Aug 30 2009 : 11:12:48 AM I have been doing a lot of knitting lately and now I have small balls of yarn left from various projects. I asked my daughter, who is a teacher, if she had any use for them and she said she did not, most teachers have more than they will ever use. Does anyone have any ideas about what I can do with this yarn? I do not want to throw it away,it is good yarn. |

Posted - Aug 31 2009 : 08:28:38 AM The beginning of the year Theresa rallied up some of us girls to knit or crochet squares for Warming Up America. Once Theresa received the squares she make a blanket with them to send in. I'm not sure if she will be heading this up again this year but depending on just how much yarn is left, you could make squares :)

Posted - Aug 31 2009 : 07:09:45 AM I'm with Luanne. Scrap scarves can turn out so beautiful. Also, I use my scraps to crochet art dolls. A little doll stitches up in an hour and can be dressed so cute with just a tiny bit of yarn.

Posted - Aug 31 2009 : 06:23:53 AM I make coasters out of my little bits.
I also give the last few yards to my 3 year old. He loves to wrap them around his cars and then ask me to untangle it. He must be part kitty. |

Posted - Aug 31 2009 : 04:23:08 AM I knit scarves with them - one row for each color leaving a long enough "tail" on each end to act as a fringe.

Posted - Aug 30 2009 : 2:13:37 PM I would have to agree with the granny square idea. I use them, and they end of making some really pretty squares. Another though, save it for dolly hair later on or different colored fringes on something like a scarf. :D hugs

Posted - Aug 30 2009 : 12:52:41 PM I make enough granny squares for lap robes and donate them to the local nursing homes at christmas. So often the residents have no family left and they really appreciate a gift made with love.

Posted - Aug 30 2009 : 12:13:27 PM I too am a knitter/crocheter and I find myself with leftover yarn all the time. I make small amigurumi toys and give them to homeless shelters or donate them to the local schools at Christmas time for their families in need. You can also make holiday pins, flowers to brighten up a dull bag, doll clothes etc. I do this all the time:)
