My sewing machine died! I think there is a short somewhere, I had to wiggle the cord to get it to work, but that only worked a few times. I have a few items cut out and need to get started on a quilt for Christmas. Here is my question: The ol Singer is about 70 years old. Can it be adapted to a tredle{?}. I would love to have that option. Thank you all.

Boy your repair guy should be able to, We have Amish and who just love to treadle retro sewing machines as treadle.
You also maybe able to retro a new motor to yours.
I know about keeping a sewing machine. My mom still uses the one I learned on, but I have my husband's mothers and I love it a Singer Slant 50- 7 or 9, I'd have to look again.
I keep it in it's cabinet, out in my log cabin shed and bring it out onto the porch and sew.
Otherwise I have a portable I drag around the house.
Those old machines are the best, they sew thru about anything.

Well girls I did google it and I guess it can be done. It looks lke it takes more talent than I have. When I go pick up my machine, I am going to ask the fella there. I'll let you know

I think it can be adapted. . . seems to me there was a book or something about doing just that. Lehman's might have a book on the how to's. . . or maybe a google search will come up with it for you.

I can't get rid of it, it is in the shop for 1-2 weeks. I learned to sew on this machine when I was five, It's part of me. I just wanted an alternative way to use it just in case. Thanks Connie

Hi Carol, I'm not a sewing machine expert. Maybe it just needs to be re-wired? I wouldnt get rid of it though.
