Get the wax out of candle jars that have burned down? The wick is no good in them and I want to clean the jars up to make some new candles. I'm not sure how to do this without breaking the glass. And some have glass jars in metal containers that I can't remove. So I just don't know what to do!!!!

Rosemary: Your method sounds great because then you have a clean candleholder and a fire starter. Good thinking. I always have used the freezer method but I'll try yours next time. Thanks

definitely freezer, because it is less messy. But if there is a big rim on the top of your container, the wax will not just drop out. So that is a factor, too. One of my friends uses sand in the bottom of her candle holders, and the hot wax seeps into it, but it is still easy to remove.

I use the freezer and to prevent it from happening in the future if you will put a small amount of water in the bottom of your candle holder and be sure there is a bit in the bottom every time you light it. The wax will not stick to the holder. It really only takes about a teaspoon of water.

Put them out in the sunshine to soften, scoop it out with a paper towel, and use the whole mess as a firestarter.

Put it in the freezer and with a little help it will pop right out. I wouldn't put it in the dishwasher until ALL the wax is out, it might coat your other dishes with a film of wax.

I do what Julie does and then run them through the dishwasher. That seems to get rid of any little bit of wax that's left.
It's not about being perfect, but enjoying what you do. Set aside time to be creative.

I would place it in the fridge until it got cold then chip it out with a sharp knife. Just be careful...

I have set tehm in a pan of boiling water before to help loosen the sides. It sometimes has taken several tries to get it completely out. Good Luck

Maybe use a candle warmer to melt the wax then pour it out. Might work. Good luck!
