I HAVE STARTED SOMETHING NEW THAT I AM REALLY HAVING A LOT OF FUN WITH BUT NEED SOME IDEAS. I HAVE STARTED MAKING KEY RINGS AND BRACELETS OUT OF ALL KINDS OF GLASS BEADS. BEAUTIFUL, DIFFERENT BEADS THAT I HAVE BEEN BUYING ON LINE. I HAVE ABOUT 35 KEY RINGS AND PROBABLY AS MANY BRACELETS. JUST KEEP MAKING THEM, BUT DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH THEM. ANY IDEAS?

For fifteen years, I was Art Director for a needlework company. We published cross-stitch books. We also published beading books and the process we utilized involved using our same charted designs for both stitching and beading. Any cross-stitch design can be converted to a beaded design by choosing your bead colors and following the chart by putting a bead where each stitch would normally go. It works great on ornament designs and Christmas cards that have insert windows. Both make nice little gifts for the holidays. We used perforated paper and backed the paper ornaments with adhesive felt. We used braiding for the hangers. I have even done a beaded wall sampler. I like these ideas, because they utilize seed beads and are not quite as gaudy as some of the beading projects that are out there today. (my own opinion, of course!)

Karen-- I just saw glass beaded keychains in of all places...Borders!
The rack was almost empty so...maybe you've got something to sell!
Any funky shops, boutiques, hair salons near you? Give it a try!
The worst they can say is "No,thanks "and the best they can do is say" Absolutely! Bring us some more!"

Karen,
I have been buying beaded fringe on Ebay to use on my projects. I make a variety of shawls, Victorian beaded and embroidered vests, skirts, cloaks and such. I sell them on Ebay and make them special order. I used to have a complete sewing and alteration service, but the kids came along.
Wedding gowns and small boys don't mix. I quit that before any mishaps could happen and now I make pretty and unique things.
Anyway... if I buy beaded trims, surely there are others who do as well. Maybe that is an idea for you???

I have tried beading but it was a bit expensive to buy those beads, so what I've done is taken some of my old jewelry, bought a few jewelry supplies and made up some bracelets out of old necklaces, etc. I may give them away or save them for sale at craft shows. It's amazing what you can do by recycling the things you already have.

My girlfriend and I use to make book "thongs" out of beads. They are bookmarks with beads at each end of the "tail"

Hi Karen, Your beading sounds pretty. Have you thought of using them for napkin rings? Color cooridinate them to napkins or your holiday place settings would be fun and funky. If you have long hair maybe pony tail holders? Wine glass charms are kind of fun.
