I mostly wear 100% cotton skirts at home in the summer and a really soft tee shirt.
I have fribro. and can't stand ruff things next to my skin
I take 2 lengths of 100% cotton
you can get at JoAnn's or any where you buy your 100 %cotton fabric.
I usually get 45" width.
I wash the material first.
I get the wide non roll elastic
I measure how long I want my skirt( I wear them ankle length)
some times I add a pocket
sew up sides adding pockets ; if you them.
put in the elastic.
hem the skirt on the machine and there I have it a new skirt
Our JoAnn's have gotten so high on just the 100%cotton fabric.
If you have quilt shops in your area and like a certain fabric
go for it .
Some times.
I just like that fabric and buy it if I really like it and the cost isn't really too high.'
I can wear the skirts at least 3 or 4 summers !

When you sew up your 45" material on both sides and put in your pockets
you then put the elastic in
and draw up the elastic to fit your waist.
then you sorta adjust the skirt around you.
It should fit pretty good if you tried on the skirt before sewing up the elastic
the fullest of the added inches shouldn't matter.
I have been making skirts like this for years no problems
Maybe Dutchy might be able to explain it a bit better?
try it with adjust the elastic to fit your waist.
then pin it and sew the elastic ends together.
after you sew it together.
you fold down the material part,
I mostly sew a short zig zag or a straight stitch.

HI Sheila
when you say two length, you mean that I would use two full width of 45" material? My side seams would be where the two pieces of 45" in material meet so that before I put the elastic in, my skirt would be 90" wide?
Sorry, I am such a detail person, that I am having trouble picturing it in my head.
Sounds like a great plan. I will have to try it for surely!
hugs

They can be cheaper that some of the fabrics at our local JoAnn
s
they are getting way to high on the 100% cotton fabric.
They said they had better quality fabric.
I am not sure about that.
It all looks the same to me ! hugs sheila
