Hi Farmgirl sisters,
Has anyone made a jacket like this? It has a sweatshirt lining.
I am thinking a couple of interesting appliques on top of basic design would be good ....or a more difficult quilt design? I love this jacket!!

are you asking about my suggestion, linda? if you are, the answer is yes. i have done it with quilting cotton before. i used it to detail a plain denim skirt and make it a bit more fun.

yes, I was thinking that but I have only seen it done with denim...could regular quilting cotton work that way??

very cute. the design could be roughed up a bit by sewing across the quilt squares on a bias grid and leaving the edges to fray like beggers cloth.

They sure are, aren't they, Linda? I might just have to make one of those for my Dash.

I like the idea of a crazy quilt...sounds easy and fun! I wish I lived close enough to take your class.

This is a great pattern and lots of fun to make. I am teaching a class this summer to sew this exact one! Some like the buttons, I prefer the zipper. Have even seen them with a tab using Velcro as a closure, really cute. You could even make it like a crazy quilt, doing the hand or machine embroidery.

I made a similar jacket - only it had a zipper front - more of a "bomber" style. The cotton patchwork was quilted to two layers of flannel, then everything was washed before the pattern pieces were cut out. I absolutely loved this jacket - I wore it out. I still use it though, tattered tho it is. It is hanging on a nail at the cabin and it's the first thing I grab to go out on a chilly morning. Sooooooooo comfortable!

Where is the pattern from? Would she share how she did it?

Every time she washed she ironed that one patch till she got it flattened back out some but you could always tell which one it was.

She went on to make many many and wears them all the time.
Just wash everything that goes on them and the sweatshirt.

Diana, what did she do with it after that? Did she replace that piece or just leave it as is? I'm curious.

I haven't personally made one but a friend did she for got to wash one of the quilt pieces and it was the only one that shrunk. So I would wash everything before starting.
I have always thought they were a great idea.
