As most of you know, we are expecting baby #3 in months to come. With my other two children, I pretty well stayed small and could get away with only a few maternity clothes items. I fear however this baby, will not be the same way as I am bigger, broader, and must shorter this go 'round. :P
Now, having said all that..lol...Would anyone know where I could find maternity clothes patterns? The prices of clothes are outlandish and quite frankly I don't like dressing as though I am the baby. I think women can still look elegant and pretty without cutsy-babyish clothes.
Now, don't get me wrong, I love the little shirts that say, "Baby On Board" or my favorite is matching nightshirts for Mom and Baby that says "Supplier" on Mom's, and "Demander" on Baby's, but ruffles across my tummy and baby rattle material just isn't my thing.:D
So, if anyone of you could point me in a good direction to find some patterns I would be very appreciative.
I don't start showing until around week 12 so that gives me a good full 6 weeks to get some pretties made.

Thanks, Marly! We do have a couple, only a boy name for definite. A boy will be Charles Richard
but we have a few floating around for a girl. Either the first or middle is going to be Alizabeth, but we haven't decided what to put with it. :D)

Jonni--I am a large normally, so all of my maternity clothes run the same way. Thank you for the sweet offer though. I really appreciate it.
Jami--I didnt even think about checking on line to see what patterns there were. I always think you can't print a pattern offline, but thats just not true..hehe

I did a Google search for "maternity clothes patterns" and quite a few pattern companies came up plus a free site for making "regular" clothes into maternity clothes. Might try that and see if anything suits your fancy. Congrats!

I saw that my little local thrift store has some patterns I will look at size and style tomorrow. They are only opened 3 days a week.

Ruby--I will look into those. I went to walmart the other day and had no luck so much as finding a blouse pattern or anything. I thought for sure that being as they carry Butterick, McCalls, Simplicity, and their own brand patterns, that there would be something, but I couldn't find it anywhere.
Jo Ann fabrics is a good hour away, so unless I am up in that area I don't make any special trips.
A sling pattern would be awesome! My son was colicky and I never want to live through those nightmares again..hehe!

Jessie...I don't know how similar we are in size, but I remained a medium my entire pregnancy (didn't start wearing items until about mid to late October), but I still have some wonderful winter sweaters (a couple of cashmere blends) and some shirts that you might like to have, especially since your little one will be due near Violet's due date. I'm not much into "baby" looking clothing either, and I work in a lawfirm, so most of the clothes I purchased could go either way, for work or casual. I also have 4 dresses (3 for the office) and 1 for evening if you're interested, I believe they are each some semblance of black and white, all black or black and cream  ...
I know you're thinking of making some items, but last time I checked, sweaters take a bit!!!

Congratulations! My mom and I sewed most of my maternity clothes, because I didn't like most of what was available, and also was on a tight budget. Vogue 2818 and Simplicity 4704 are good basic patterns that you can "make your own" by embellishing, etc. Also, so many of the styles these days could easily be adapted to maternity...the high-waisted empire, baby doll styles, etc. could be lengthened to accomodate a growing tummy, making them simple maternity tops and dresses! After baby arrives, if you need nursing wear patterns, I had good luck with those from www.ElizabethLee.com, including the sling pattern there! Very easy to do, and was necessary with a colicky, mama only baby! Enjoy your sewing, what fun!
