In this months magazine there is a pattern that says to enlarge it 400 times.

Well of course I didn't have a scanner and ran right out to buy one LOL. Actually mine died and I needed a new one anyway. well the sales person couldn't tell me if it would enlarge 400 times and of course when I got home and opened it up it only enlarges to 200 times.

So do I enlarge it 200 times and then again 2 times??

Sorry if this is in the wrong area but since it was enlarging a sewing pattern I thought someone here would know LOL.

Sure thing! It's kind of fun to see your patternn emerge as you do the enlargments by hand!

Hi Lorie!

Home scanners take quite a bit of painstaking work to enlarge the pattern. There are 2 ways to enlarge the pattern much easier. You can take it down to a printing place like Fed-ex Kinkos and have them enlarge it on their large format printer, or you can follow the instructions found here: http://www.maryjanesfarm.org/Recipes-Patterns-Instructions/pattern_enlargement.pdf

On how to use paper and a ruler to enlarge the pattern. I have tried both of MaryJane's methods listed above and they work great! Your home scanner is going to take a lot of patience and work because as the lines get larger, you are going to have to keep scanning and shifting. I tried doing it once with my home scanner just to see what it was like and it took HOURS and then I had to tape it all together and it was an altogether mess. Plus it uses a LOT of the somewhat expensive printer paper that ends up just getting trimmed away. So then I tried the two methods MaryJane suggests on some cheap craft paper from the dollar store and it took less than 15 minutes (including reading the directions!) So I highly recommend the hand enlargement! The Radial Projection Enlargement looked intimidating at first but I found it to be the easiest one for me.
