Go check out the post about Aunt Jenny's cow, Mona. It's the one with the updated pics on Jan 21. Some gals started talkin' about having a baby shower for the coming calf.

I mentioned making a milkin' cushion for Jenny. I'll make the first one and provide the cushion. All you have to do is make a removeable, washable cover for it. Add all your own distinct creativity to it. Jenny will be sure to be milking in style and to get a chuckle and a warmth in her heart when she uses the cushion.

The dimensions are a 12 x 12 square pillow cushion with about 4 inches in thickness.

Post her when it's ready to be sent. And post a pic, too, if you can!

Blessings
Catherine

I have some black and cream toile that is decorator weight fabric. That would hold up well. I'll get busy on a cover tomorrow. If I don't do the the toile I'll probably have to do something in pink -- LOL. Seems like every piece of fabric I own is some shade of pink.

Is it toile?

Toile fabrics originated in the late 1700s. They are known for their large pictoral repeats on a plain background. They each tell a story. From france.

I just love toile prints- usually a one color design with ivory behind.

Hi girls,

The cushion is a 12 x 12 square pillow...standard kind bought at WalMart. The lofitness of it is about 4 inches, but in time may decrease a bit. So, I cut my fabric right at 14 1/2 inches square and sewed it up with a 1/2 inch seam allowance, making the finished cover 14 x 14. I did an overlap on the back and added a couple of ties at the corners in case jenny wanted to tie it down. It would be okay to do one as small as 13 x 13.

The one I've finished is a deep country red with a French country print of two sisters skipping along. I think there's some fancy name for the print, but I can't remember. I figured I'd do a nice one before I do one that has a silly poem on it.

Blessings

Catherine -- you're on a roll today! Could you give the dimensions of your cushion?

Oh Ok- I do not need the cushion part- just the cover...I will see what I come up with and hopefully it works. This should be a snap, so basically I am making a square pillow case with an over lapped slit in the back for the cushion...Catherine is it 12 by 12 flat or bigger before you insert the cushion?

I would love to 'shower' Jenny---So I am off to Joann's soon to get the inner part and then I will be sewing- I am thinking of doing some patchwork...
Hooray for Mona!

Thought I'd bring this post back up to the top since Mona should be birthin' that baby soon. I wanted to pass the idea along for more cushion cover makers!

I've finished one cushion and have taken a pic. but haven't developed them yet or gotten a cd. I know, I need to get a digital camera and move up to the real world.

I thought of a really crass poem:

Here's a place for you to sit
While you pull on Mona's t.....

I think I'm gonna clean it up and embroider a second cushion cover:

Here's a place for your seat
While you milk Mona's teat.

I'd love to make one! What a great idea! Way to go on making the cushion...I wish we knew whether to be thinking "pink" or "blue!"

How sweet, did you make one already Cajungal? Could you post a photo of it? Thanks

What a cool idea, Catherine!!! I'm no sewer, but I sure can appreciate having a cushion when you're hand milking twice a day!
