I finally found this
http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/77421/

I have hunted for this for years upon years.
and I found it today
This flower grew by our small cabin in Speedwell Va.
It also grows wild in the forest that is near our cabin
I remember smelling this rose bush every day when it was in blown
It has a really sweet smell.
Isn't it funny the smells that you remember as a child
I am so happy to have found the real name
We called it "Bubbie Rose"
I hope to be able to purchase it and get hubby to plant me a bush or two.hugs sheila

Sheila, I had a huge bush like his on my Virginia farm until a landscaper talked me into getting rid of it. (I should have at least transplanted it to another spot on our property. It was thriving.) A former owner, still a neighbor, used to call it a "spice bush." It sure did smell spicy! It isn't a rose, though. I see these bushes on property where the houses are pretty old, so I have the feeling there was a "special" on them somewhere in the 50's or so. Our farmhouse dates back to 1911, but I think that bush was planted later. I hope you can find a new one for your place. It'll be such a lovely reminder of happy childhood times.

Good for you Sheila! Isn't the Internet a wonderful source of information. Now you just have to find your shower curtain :)
These look so pretty and I would love to smell them.

Karen, I checked on of the sellers and it looks like it is for zones 4-9.

I've never seen a rose like that before. No wonder you hunted for it for so long!

What an unusual rose, congrats on finding it and don't those scents just take us back, miles and miles, years and years. It's a beauty. What zones does it do?

Find your joy and live it. http://cheneybaglady.blogspot.com/http://www.kpaints.etsy.com http://www.thevintagebaglady.etsy.com FG #377
