Posted - Mar 29 2009 : 3:49:01 PM I'm attempting my first pair of socks. I'm crocheting them since I don't know how to knit. I'm a bit excited. Started one and realized it was way to tight, so got to the end of a row and grabbed the other yarn. Much better. That first one will go to one of the girls as this endeavor will turn into Xmas gifts. I'm one of those people with cold feet and trying to find good socks can be expensive, or difficult. So after visiting the book store and glancing at one of the self-sufficient books, I said why not.
Does anyone else makes socks?

Posted - Apr 04 2009 : 3:01:28 PM I have used hand spun cotton yarn...nice for winter. I knit mostly with wool or wool/nylon sock yarn, or alpaca from Grace for my socks but still use acrylic (but the nice stuff) for socks for my kids...so I don't have to have a fit if they end up in the washer and dryer by accident. Cotton socks are very nice. I have wanted to try some nice linen yarn I saw to make a pair of dressy socks some time too.

Posted - Apr 04 2009 : 12:46:03 PM Toni, I've used Fixation, which is cotton with a little lycra(I think). Another very nice sock yarn is Panda Cotton. It's a combination of bamboo and cotton. One of my girls and one of my sisters can't wear wool socks so I'm always looking for alternatives.
It's not about being perfect, but enjoying what you do. Set aside time to be creative.

Posted - Apr 02 2009 : 06:44:00 AM So I got the top part done and moved on to the ankle. For this the instruction said to single crochet along the edge to join the piece. Well, I did and then I tried a second row and the loops have fallen to the outside. They should be building up to form 2 inches of ankle. Anyone have any ideas? thanks
