I want to learn hand quilting. Any suggestions on good books. I enjoy sitting on the couch doing hand work kind of stuff. Thanks

I am not sure yet what I will use, just looking and getting ideas right now. Looking for something fairly simple yet will learn a lot from it kind of thing. I have a book with just blocks in it which is nice.

Hand quilting is practice practice. Machine quilting is faster but a hand one is nicer. Good luck and show us pics of your progress. What were you thinking for your first project?

I learned hand piecing and quilting from that book, and I could not agree more! I have a number of books on hand quilting and not only is that one the best and most complete in terms of information, but it is simply beautiful to look at.
She also has a very "can-do!" attitude, and doesn't come across as a "Quiltzilla."

I have Jinny Beyer's 'Quilting By Hand' (Simple Stitches, Exqusite Quilts) and it is the most amazing book that I have ever had on sewing a quilt completely by hand. She takes you through every single step and answers just about any question that you could possibly have. If you are looking to make quilts completely by hand, I highly recommend it.

The book I started learning from was "Quilter's Complete Guide" by Marianne Fons & Liz Porter. It's a great starting point, but it really does help to join a group & quilt with others.
You may find you have to experiment with different thimbles, and it's best to get your stitches consistent in length first, and after you get that mastered, then concentrate on trying to make them smaller.
Too bad you don't live closer, the quilting group I belong to is desperate for some more members!

Hi Rae,
The best place that I learned to quilt was joining a local quilting group. I have been shown how to draft patterns, putting colors together, finishing quilt tops, and hand quilting. The pitch-in lunches are great and you'll meet some very interesting ladies. It's also a time that will help you relax and enjoy life. Good Luck. PS The cost is usually a very small amount yearly.

I hand quilt.... And my advice is just keep your stitches even and small!! You are going to love hand quilting!

I don't hand quilt myself but I hear Jenny Byers is the hand quilting queen. I know she has several books out so you might want to check them out.
