I am pretty hard on socks. If they get just one hole, I will sew it closed. When they wear beyond repair, I use them to dust and clean with. One day my husband saw me sewing a hole closed and the next day he came in with several packages of brand new socks for me. (Isn't he a doll!) He stated that when he was growing up his mother would sew up his socks and he never could stand the "knots" the repairs made. Now I only sew my socks when he isn't around. Am I the only one who indulges in such guilty pleasures as this in secret?

I just get as close as I can to the colors. After all, no one is going to see them. It is tough to get by hubby sometimes though as he does all the laundry (with my newely homemade soap!)

I darn my hand knit socks but don't with thinner store bought socks. I can't seem to find matching "thread" or yarn for them as they are nylon/cotton mix. What do you use? I'm game, just not that brilliant...

I darned a pair of socks today. They are the first pair of cotton self patterning sock yarn I had used. And the first pair of socks I had knitted in 20 years, so I am not ready to give them up. Thanks to the section of darning socks in MJs book, I was fearless, not good, but fearless. Darn on!!!!

I'm a darner since I got my darning "ball"(looks like a wooden bulb on a stick) from Lehman's. My husband wears out the heels...go figure.

You are definitely not the only one, as I darn socks all the time. My guy, I swear, has bones for toes and is constantly poking them through! He doesn't mind the darning at all, says he doesn't even notice. I just have to remind him not to wear them when he has a doctor's appointment. Darn away!!
