Posted - Feb 23 2009 : 1:39:09 PM I am working on my rusty hand quilting skills in hopes of doing some for people around to help out with the household budget woes. I was wondering if any of you know what people charge in your area for doing hand quilting because I don't have a clue anymore?
thanks Kathy

Posted - Feb 26 2009 : 06:52:07 AM Years ago church groups would hand quilt others' creations and they charged by the spool of thread, but I doubt any one would do that these days. You might figure out how much you accomplish in an hour while you are derusting your skills and charge, oh I don't know , $15 an hour. The suggestion to look in the back of quilt magazines is a good one...and if there is a quilt shop nearby they might know something.

Posted - Feb 26 2009 : 04:23:11 AM I don't know any hand quilters that do it for pay here either. I think I live so far north, that most people who "quilt" are actually making tied comforters with super thick batting for the warmth. I read once, though, that some hand quilters charge by the number of lengths of threads used.

Posted - Feb 23 2009 : 5:13:52 PM I don't know anyone that does hand quilting around me, but you may want to check in some of the quilting magazines because I seem to remember seeing ads for hand quilting! You may be able to call around and see what they charge! Hope this helps!
