For a face and hair for this little beauty...
5 Acre Farmgirl - don't peek!
I came across a really cool tea cozy idea that was a doll, with the tea cozy being the petticoats for her big 1800's style skirt. This idea is very personal to me because last year our village celebrated its 175th birthday, and I am a direct descendant of the founding father of our village. Also, my husband is our mayor, and being a crafter I said - hey I'll make us some costumes! I love the dress of the early 1800's, and to be able to use some of the leftover fabric and muslin from that project was such a cool idea! Plus, I'm totally into making dolls right now (why?), so this was the perfect marriage for this swap.
I changed her head twice - didn't like the one the pattern had, and my first attempt on my own wasn't right either. Anyway, I'd like her to still look 1800's-ish. Her dress has turned out so pretty that I don't want something too prim, but still I want to keep her simple. The pattern has typical ragdoll yarn hair, which I don't mind doing, but I want it to be a bit more stylish than just a bunch of hanging or looping yarn.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Here she is, getting her hair done. I think we can all relate to having dreadful pins in our hair!
Closer up...
The blue eyes and pink mouth are still pins marking where to put her eyes and mouth.
The back (in progress)...
This is all filled in now, and even has a neat little bun! It's not very clear, but at least you can see a little of the braid detail.

I finished her hair today, and here's what I did...
I took brown embroidery floss and cut it into pieces @ 2 ft long each. I tied three pieced together and braided them. Then I pinned the braids around her head until it looked right to me. It took 1 full skein and part of another to make enough to cover her pretty little head. I also used the floss (single strand) to stitch the braids onto her head. Her final braid even had enough to make a little tiny bun on the back of her head. And, I used some to give her three little ringlets for bangs. Will post photos tomorrow, when I will work on her face and rehemming her dress (it needs to come up a bit more).
She is so cool - I'm going to have to make one for myself!

P.S. Her arms will have the larger checked fabric for sleeves, in case you were curious. That's what I'm working on now, while trying to figure out how to top her off (so to speak)...
