My sister got the urge to knit socks but hasn't a clue on how to make them-she only knits scarves. I don't knit so I was wondering if any one had a pattern and instructions on knitting socks.

Thanks for the help,
Jessi Lynn

Start with a pretty basic pattern and it really is not any big deal. if you know how to knit in the round you will have no problems.

I put off knitting socks for years, I felt intimidated. I bit the bullet and tried to knit socks and the first pair was rough until I understood the process. Now knitting nice warm socks is a favorite past time and so rewarding. I have nice warm toes in the winter now.

I love to knit socks. My favorite pattern is one called Iowa Crew/cruise socks by Cottage Creations. I think they have a website. I have had my beat up old pattern for years and years. A very basic pattern with all kinds of size variations and a good one to learn with..there are tons of illustrations and good instructions. I have knitted other socks but always come back to this pattern. I have a hard time resisting sock yarn!

Have her check out the links below for sock patterns - the knitty site patterns are arranged in order of difficulty. I order all my sock yarn through the knipicks site and they also have free pattern downloads.
I was sooo intimadated to make socks at first, but really once I got through the first sock it was fun.
She will need double pointed needles (dpns) in size 0 to 2, depending on the pattern.
I personally found it easier starting out using a cuff-down pattern as opposed to a toe-up pattern, and doing a plainer rib sock before attempting fancy lace version.
