Found a better pattern:
http://www.noodlepants.com/heartpatternpage.htm

I am working this up for a few dishcloths right now. Am thinking about getting some more pastel yarn, and working it up on my size 50's as a baby blanket.

Why don't we do this...
Dishcloths - work up and try to finish by the end of March.

If you want to be crazy like me and try to do it on gigronomous needles as a baby afghan, let's make the deadline the same as the crochet-a-long, which is Mother's Day, and donate them to a women's/children's charity of your choice.

Sound better? Let's knit!

********************************************************************

Anyone up for a knit-a-long? We are having so much fun on the crochet-a-long, that I'd see if anyone wanted to do this one, too.

Here is the pattern. I thought the diagonal strips were so cool!
http://www.lionbrand.com/patterns/30038AD.html

It calls for Wool Ease Chunky, but I think you could still use plain old worsted weight or your own handmade yarns, too. Some of the yarn colors the pattern recommends have been discontinued, but they still have a ton of other colors to substitute. The yarn size is listed as 5, chunky. This is also an intermediate pattern, so beginning beginners may want to have some help.

We won't have a deadline (unless you want to say 12/31/09), so you can knit at your own pace. I am going to find a way to make mine in orange and blue for hubby's birthday end of March. If I'm not done, he can get it for Christmas. And if not then, well he'll have another birthday in '10! LOL

Be sure to post photos of your progress!

I'll try this one. I've wanted to try a washcloth with a pattern in it and it looks pretty easy. I do need to get started on my baby sweaters. Baby #1 is due in a couple weeks. I have a gift certificate to my fav knitting store and I'll be on that side of town for a dr appt on Friday so I'm picking up the sz circ needles I need. I decided to go with EZ February Baby Sweater instead of the original pattern I bought. We'll see how that shakes out because when I get one done, I still need 3 more!

i am always crocheting dishcloths, hands like to keep busy. Right now I am also knitting an afghan for me. I always make them for everyone else, so it is my turn. I love this pattern you came up with for the striped afghan! I want to make it too. I am having trouble with the pattern I chose (this is the second one I have started)and I am a skilled knitter but it's the concentration on the counting I am having trouble with. I may have to switch to this one right away. Anyway, thanks for the pattern and I am sure I will do it later if not right away. I learned how to crochet recently and used youtube and it was so much easier than any book.

I have decided to learn to knit with needles. I was at Walmart and I found a set (size 8 shorter needles and little booklet) that I picked up for about $4. I found that I can work the needles better now that they are shorter. I booklet is very easy to follow. I hope I can accomplish my first project...a scarf.

I do have knitting needles (just in case), but never learned. I will, however, check out the Youtube and the links. Ann, I wished you lived closer too! I'd love to have you teach me how to knit :)

Tammy... If you go to http://youtube.com and put in knitting basics.. it shows you how to knit. It has helped me with the knitting loom. Maybe it can help you with the needles.

Julie is right - the motion you use on the loom is very similar to crocheting and it gives you a knitted look.

It's a shame you don't live closer, I'd gladly teach you how to knit...

Tammy... these circle looms are very easy to learn. Plus there are many books out there that teach you how to use these looms. I really like mine.

That's fine! I love doing hats on my circle looms - quick and easy. I am actually working on designing a bag on one of my looms. I know in my spare time, right?! LOL

Anyway, welcome aboard!

I just bought myself a set of circle looms for knitting. May I join you girls? But I may just be knitting hats or scarves for starters.

Maybe I should find another pattern? Or we can all just choose an afghan pattern for ourselves and work on them together?

I'm totally open to ideas...

Once I can get log in I will let you know if I want to join in the knit a long. I forgot my lion brand password and they have to send it to me and then I can check it out.
