I would like to give it to my little bro and his wife when my nephew is born. I do not knit or crochet...

Do you think that cotton chenille yarn holds up better? I know the acrylic chenille does not wear well.

There are tons of baby yarns~oh, so soft. Hobby Lobby especially has a good selection~watch their Sunday flyer for needlework sales.

yes...do not use chenille yarn
my sister bought a ton of it and worked her buns off on a crochet king size blanket for her couch.....used about 1 month and had to throw it out...it just fell apart and she does not have a bunch of kids or anything, it was only her hubs who used it.

Ah, good points. I'm so glad I asked here!

This makes me question the whole point of chenille yarn now... Are there acrylics that are super soft?

Chenille tends to "worm" out of the fabric of the knitted or crocheted piece as well. For baby things I'd definitely want a yarn that will hold up to multiple washings.

chenille yarn does not hold up well. I made a sweater for my daughter who only wears it to special events ( like 6 times in the last year she wore it) and the yarn has just gone to shreds.

have a lovely day and may God bless you and keep you safe

P.S. I came across some chenille yarn at Hobby Lobby while I was fabric shopping - I love that stuff, it's so soft! Can anybody do something with that? After looking at a couple of websites I think I can safely say I don;t want granny squares. Otherwise, I'm clueless.

I'm answering everybody at once (to preserve what precious little sanity I've got left...).
I know nothing about knitting or crocheting, so I can't answer the "what kind?" question. Um, I'm open to suggestions, I guess. Something with blues or blue and white. He's due the end of March.

I'll check out the links you've mentioned and thank you kindly for your responses!

I do both knitting and crocheting
One of the stitches that makes a beautifull stitch is the simple shell stitch
I made 2 huge agafhans for Christmas presents.
They turned out really pretty pinkroses

Ginny- It isn't knit but I have a fabulous chenille and vintage ticking baby blanket in my etsy store...it is made using European Ticking from Miss Wilma in Kentucky. Truly one of a kind.
Warmly, Rebekka

I don't crochet but I do knit. What kind/color of baby blanket are you wanting? And when is the baby due?

Hi Ginny,

I knit and crochet. What kind of blanket-afghan are you looking for?

Since you get more joy out of giving joy to others, you should put a good deal of thought into the happiness that you are able to give.

In case you don't get any "bites", I found some VERY reasonable handmade baby afghans here:
