Posted - Dec 23 2008 : 7:35:39 PM yes...do not use chenille yarn my sister bought a ton of it and worked her buns off on a crochet king size blanket for her couch.....used about 1 month and had to throw it out...it just fell apart and she does not have a bunch of kids or anything, it was only her hubs who used it.

Posted - Dec 23 2008 : 7:23:57 PM Ah, good points. I'm so glad I asked here!
This makes me question the whole point of chenille yarn now... Are there acrylics that are super soft?

Posted - Dec 23 2008 : 6:07:58 PM Chenille tends to "worm" out of the fabric of the knitted or crocheted piece as well. For baby things I'd definitely want a yarn that will hold up to multiple washings.

Posted - Dec 23 2008 : 5:52:42 PM chenille yarn does not hold up well. I made a sweater for my daughter who only wears it to special events ( like 6 times in the last year she wore it) and the yarn has just gone to shreds.

Posted - Dec 23 2008 : 5:39:07 PM P.S. I came across some chenille yarn at Hobby Lobby while I was fabric shopping - I love that stuff, it's so soft! Can anybody do something with that? After looking at a couple of websites I think I can safely say I don;t want granny squares. Otherwise, I'm clueless.

Posted - Dec 23 2008 : 5:35:16 PM I'm answering everybody at once (to preserve what precious little sanity I've got left...). I know nothing about knitting or crocheting, so I can't answer the "what kind?" question. Um, I'm open to suggestions, I guess. Something with blues or blue and white. He's due the end of March.
I'll check out the links you've mentioned and thank you kindly for your responses!
