You can see more detail on my blog of them...  this second one looks like a hwk to me. It is actually 3d also. all 3 of these peices are of petrified wood. The first two are from ranchmamas cattle ranch and the hawk one I had gotten with some stones on ebay a year or so ago. It is a texas piece of petrified wood.

Just had to show the other ones i made last few days ... this is the one that remended me of a door to maybe a hobbit or gnome house :P These arent polished. I have spreayed several coats of craft sealer on them to add a gloss.

deborah ..I use all kinds of size wire. From 18 gauge to 24 gauge. The 18 to 20 gauge works good for making wire shapes that I use as focal points in the jewelry. The 20 and 22 is nice for wire wrapping. You might pick up different size ones and see which you like better. It will depend on what you like to use. Remeber the higher the number in guage --the thinner the wire. If you are doing a bigger and heavier stone --you the thickest wire ( lower # guage ) that you like to work with. The brown wire is a plastic coated wire. You will see that in alot of the wire that is sold for jewelry. The black and gold wire is a paint coated wire and you have to be careful not to knick the paint off it when you are bending it.

PSS....what size wire do you use? I went on you site Lisa and saw some other things you have done...They are beautiful. Also is the brown wire you have on one of your barter pieces coated? Or is it copper? I really couldnt tell.

Yes, wirewrapping takes skill and lots of practice. Ck the wigjig university for lots of helpful info on working with wire. ;)

Hi deborah :) I really dont know how to tell you to do them Each piece is wrapped differnet due to size and shape of stone --what wire you use and all....and however i bend the wire to tighten around the stone. None of my wraps ever are the same really. Best I can do is tell you to get some wire and experiment with it and the stones. It is more of a hands on thing to learn. It takes some practice to do them and alot of patience while you learn it. But once you do .. you will enjoy it alot.

Lisa, can you tell me how you do the wire work for the stones and wood on your necklaces. I have several stones and my 2 granddaughters love stones I want to make necklaces for them.
