I need a pattern for a long prairie skirt. I have a bunch of Civil War dress patterns but none that are simple and would have been worn doing everyday chores or traveling west during the 1860's. I bought a bolt of Organic Cotton muslin and am making petticoats and nightgowns, but I have to have a skirt to wear over my petticoats! My neighbors already think I'm crazy wearing skirts all the time. But I love them! Thanks in advance for the info!

This is great! I would love to wear skirts and dresses everyday! Especially the type they wore way back when. How wonderful! I'm going to take a look on the net for patterns as well. :)

If you love to wear skirts do you ever wear bloomers or pantaloons? I know Mary Jane has patterns for some. I wore them with my long skirts in high school and now I have started to wear them again. If you need a pattern besides Mary Janes I found one on a web site called Modest Handmaidens. It is a super simple pattern that fits great and keeps my legs warm. I like to add eyelet to the bottoms of their pattern. I work at an elementary school and we have a darling little girl who is in the fourth grade who will never wear pants. She told her mom when she was tiny that she didn't ever want to wear pants so she wears dresses everyday. I wish there were more people in the world who were brave enough to dress the way they want to. Hope you have found the perfect pattern and who cares what your neighbors think. You go girl!

Terri, I'll try that website again. I guess I just looked at the pictures and briefly read the directions. Guess that's what I get by being in a hurry. I'll check out that new website you suggested too. thank you.....
Corrine....is my color malfunctioning on my computer or do all your goats look like aliens with devil-possessed eyes? ...lol...just checking....maybe you should be bluefootgoatgirl...

check ebay for the folkwear patterns, i've gotten some very good deals on specialty patterns there.
What we write today slipped into our souls some other day when we were alone and doing nothing.

Do you need an actual paper pattern to work with? The link I provided above is directions for a gored skirt.....no paper pattern needed. You would just divide everything by 4 (or 6 or 8) instead of 2......depending on the number of gores you want. |

ok...I checked out three websites you all suggested for patterns.
folkwear patterns aren't cheap, but I like them and realized I have a few already that could be altered (dresses).
The Ringger Clothing website, I believe they only make the clothing for you. And the styles were a little to Pentacostal/Amish for my taste. (no offense) and the tonyanddanalewis site, the pattern was for an A-line skirt.
What I need is a pattern for a gored skirt, I guess. If I haven't missed any replies to this topic do any of you know a pattern place?

I have several skirts....I never use a pattern. I make a simple gored skirt......here is a simple way to work out the measurements http://www.tonyanddanalewis.com/patternlessskirt.html You can add more gores for fullness.

Okay, here is one from FolkWear: http://www.folkwear.com/206.html I was supprised Simplicity did not have any prairie girl skirt patterns! Here is another one from Ringger Clothing: http://www.ringgerclothing.com/shop/shop.php?i=PP-0100PS There are some patterns on Ebay too.

Oh! How I would love to dress up like a prairie girl too!!!! Doesn't it feel so elegant to be wearing flowing skirts and so many layers?? So fun!
I used to know of a bunch of places online that sold prairie dress type patterns, I'll see if I can find them for you!
