Last year, when I was making my 1830's costume, my sister Nancy helped me make a duct tape double of myself (we named her "Duct Tape Dolly"). Per the instructions, I put in a strong wooden hanger so she could eventually hang in a closet and maybe used again someday. Well, she snapped right off the hook - the wooden part of the hanger is still there, but the hook part stayed on the closet rod. So, I made a base for her out of those tubes they use for concrete footings, but she doesn't have a "spine", so standing for long periods is no good. Now, a year later, she topples after about 5 minutes.

So, what do I do with her? Without her, I never could have made my costume that served me so well through three community events. She deserves better than my garage, but won't fit well into any closets. Currently, she is lying on the floor of my sewing/craft room, and she deserves better than that too. I can't bear the thought of throwing her out either.

Suggestions are very welcome!

I had her at the correct height once (used the cardboard footing tube), but now the issue is storing her.

Yesterday, I found a way to squeeze her into a closet. I almost cried, but I probably won't ever need her again.

put a round piece of wood in her neck with a hole drilled in the middle put a wood dowel a thick one up the middle of her put a screw through the hole in the neck and screw it into the dowel (add a washer for strength). Stuff her well and tape the bottom opening closed Now she can stand up on the dowel and keep her shape. Go to the local store and buy a strong Christmas tree stand place her dowel in it and screw through the bottom of the stand into the base of the dowel. If you have a dished tree stand fill with cement or concrete for added weight to keep her from toppling over. thus a dress form that stands. It would be good to figure out the right height for her ( IE where the top of your shoulders are from the ground so she stands you same height figure in the height of the stand and dowel when doing your math then you will be able to do long hems that are correct to your height.

have a lovely day and may God bless you and keep you safe
