I began my first quilt class today. we are making quilt mat bags. Quilted on bothside. Learning to do several patterns. Today we made (3 9 square blocks. 5 more classes to go..next class we learn to do the snowball block. It was so much fun!

You will absolutely love the snowball blocks - that was the first block I learned on, and every quilt I've done since then that even resembles a snowball, I use the snowball technique.
It starts with a square in the center. Then, four smaller squares are pressed in have diagonally. The corners of the little squares are matched up with the bigger square and stitched along the pressed line. Trim 1/4" away and there you have it. Repeat on the other 3 corners.
It is so simple, and they can be done in so many ways. I used the same technique with a 2nd block from a pattern in a book to make almost a wedding ring type look (and the quilt was for a wedding, too). It can be done scrappy or not, like I said so simple and flexible.
