I would like to start rug hooking with wool. Where do I start?
I would appreciate all the help that I can get.

A lot of us were talking about Rug Hooking late last year..are there any new members that Rug Hook? I've made one small design using traditional rug hooking methods.

Hopefully when I get my home unpacked and settled I will continue with more projects. It's a very relaxing craft and the selection of wool is endless. I've even seen the hooking done with jersey tshirt strips and of course, fabric strips too.

I want to make a long slender hooked design that says "Provisions" and hang it over the door to my walk in pantry.

So....anyone else out there that is rug hooking??

This magazine always has a few rug hooking designs:

Have a great day,

Hey Monica,

I bought the rug hooks...you can get them for as little as $5-8 bucks depending on the seller...lots are for sale on Ebay too. Funny enough, I'm finding that using a 1.75mm crochet hook is working very well on the 1/4" cuts for this heart design...I think the primitive size hook I've got will work great for strips cut wider than 1/4".

I've also got a needlepunch I found at Hobby Lobby and it is very big...can run sport or worsted weight through it..I'd forgot about it til you just mentioned finding one...the punch hooking is really pretty!

Stephanie, At the rate I am going it will probably be after Christmas, but you never know! I have been spinning every night lately even if it's just for a little bit! I am trying to get organized!! haha!! I got a needle punch at the thrift store yesterday! I just happen to see it in the bottom of a bag of junky craft stuff, but it was 1.99 for the whole bag and it has 3 different size needles so I figured it was worth the $2 even if I didn't want anything else in the bag! I will probably just donate it back to the thrift store!! So I suppose next is a rug hook!!!!

Hey Kimberly,

I checked out madeitmyself.com...another up and coming Etsy type platform...it should do well..Etsy needs some good competition and it's become so flooded with certain items.. I'd love to have a selling site like Etsy but it would be run like a juried show so that everyone is unique and the area not flooded with too much of the same stuff.

I like the frayed edges of the cotton...I've got some silk cut on the crossgrain that will ravel. I'm going to try it and see how it looks.

Yes, please add me to your favorites..I've added you to mine.

So Jenny, you working on any rug hooking now?

Welcome Kim!! I loved your blog!!
I have sold some of my rugs in the past...but havn't tried in awhile. I sold them through a little gift shop in a beach town in Calif for a couple years..but it isn't in business any longer. It was fun though! She got better prices for me than I would have asked for myself.

click on "Layout" and then you'll see a window open that has many "gadgets" that you can add...you can add a "LINK" list...be sure to name it..then when you look at your blog in the layout mode you'll see your new gadget. you can click on that anytime you want to add someone new..it gives you a spot to type in or paste in the web address and also a line to give it a name so something shows up other than the web address when viewing the blog..

There are lots of gadgets you can add....you'll just have to play with it to experiment..if you get hung up just post here and I'll help you. :0)

I love your rug! And there's not much fraying that shows..that's what was concerning me..and I guess you could even cut the fabric on the bias so you wouldn't get any fraying. I love all of your prim stuff...I want to hook a crow design! Anyhow, glad you've joined us..see you soon.
Yeah There is some fraying of fabric but I did exactly what the directions told me to do in reference to cutting the fabric. I dont know what will happen after its washed but hey its my first rug so next time I will cut on the bias and hopefully it wont fray. My mother in law will love it frays and all. I am glad I did this for my first one cause hopefully the next one will be even better! with no fraying :) Yes I am going to make one with crows! That is my next challenge! and that will be for myself! I always make stuff for others but not for me and its about time I do!
